Responsibility for elderly parents

At the outset, one should recognize who is elderly. Generally, elderly refers to persons of senior citizens, normally above the age of 60 years. We can categorize the elderly into two main types: the elderly and the most elderly. Most elderly fall in the age group of 80 years and above.

Children of the elderly normally take responsibility for taking care of
elderly persons. What care should they extend to them? It is nothing but looking after their health and wealth. Yes, wealth is also important to take care of for the personal protection and well-being of their spouse and children in the future. Love, a positive attitude, and mental and physical support are important items to be extended to the elderly. The degree increases as the elderly become increasingly elderly.

In a society, the elderly should be respected by all means for their healthy livelihood. Some people think that the elderly are a burden on society as they do not contribute anything physically or economically. This attitude, wherever it exists, should be avoided in a society. In reality, they are assets of society as they provide value for future generations.

The dignity and security of the elderly can be preserved by extending true love to their children and the society living around them. The attitude of seeking help in old age homes should be avoided. In primitive days, our family system was a joint family system, in which all family members lived together in a home. But later on, as modernization and lifestyle change nuclear family is being adopted due to so many factors. Elders' safety is mostly guarded in a home environment rather than in old-age homes. The Children should take responsibility for the security and dignity of the elderly in society.

The following steps help to protect the elderly at their best.
Extend unquestioned love and affection to the elderly by the children, other members of the family, and even by society.
Extend immediate medical attention and health care facilities wherever and whenever necessary.
Always preserve a positive attitude while dealing with the elderly and recognize them as VIPs.
Teach and raise awareness among children and young the need for care and love for the elderly.
Allow the elderly to express their feelings without any constraint. This will help them to ease their monotony, emotions, and feelings.
Not the least and the last is to say 'hello' daily to the elderly.
