6 Key Benefits of Proper Hydration
Shot on how I have been drinking water
Water, as we already know, is life, and for good reason. Every cell, tissue, and organ in our body depends on water to function properly. While we can survive weeks without food, most people can only go 3–5 days without water. This is to help you understand how critical hydration(water) is to our survival.
Unfortunately, many people walk around in a state of mild dehydration without realizing it. Headaches, low energy, constipation, and even mood swings are said to be related to not taking enough fluids.
6 Key benefits of proper hydration |
---|
1.Enhances physical performance
Whether you’re working out or doing daily chores, dehydration reduces strength, endurance, and coordination. Athletes can lose up to 10% of their body weight in water through sweat, which severely affects performance at such, they need to stay hydrated to improve stamina and recovery.
2.Keeps your heart healthy
Your heart pumps about 7200 to 10,000 litres of blood per day. Without enough water, blood volume decreases, forcing the heart to work harder. Proper hydration reduces the risk of fatigue, dizziness, and even cardiovascular strain.
3.Aids digestion & prevents constipation
Water helps soften stool and aids in peristalsis. Without it, digestion slows down, which may cause bloating, constipation, and discomfort.
4.Regulates body temperature
Through sweating and evaporation, water keeps your body from overheating. That is why dehydration is dangerous in hot climates as this may predispose you to heat stroke.
5.Promotes Immunity
As earlier mentioned on my previous post, hydration play a key role in immunity through supporting the lymphatic system, which is essential for transporting white blood cells and fighting infections.
6.Improves skin appearance and hair texture
Dehydration makes the skin look dull, flaky and dry. Appropriate hydration help maintain elasticity of the skin, giving it a natural glow. And improve hair texture making it pliable.
How much water do you really need?
3 litres is a good start. Hydration needs vary considering these factors:
Activity Level: Athletes or active people may need 3–4 litres daily.
Climate: Hot or humid weather increases fluid loss, and such you need to drink sufficient water to avoid heat stroke.
Diet: High salt, caffeine, or alcohol intake demands plenty of water.
💡Practical Hydration tips:
Morning boost: Drink a glass of warm water right after waking up as this kick starts your digestive symtem.
Before meals: A glass of water 30 minutes before eating aids digestion.
Hydration reminders: you can set reminders on your devices or alarms.
Eat Your water: Watermelon, cucumber, celery, and oranges work wonders.
