How I cooked my delicious Afang Soup// 07-08-2025

In daily life, I do different things and I always try my best in balancing my profession as a teacher with my passion for cooking and sharing my experiences with fellow Steemians.

Thursday, August 7th, was a breath of fresh air for me. We just rounded up the third terminal examinations at Kings and Queens Royal Schools, where I teach, I had a rare morning to myself. And I had plans for cooking and stocking my fridge, so, I decided to spend the day cooking a hearty meal.

My had craved for something special, perhaps it was my favourite food, my son loves it too. Guest the food! Afang soup. I began by going to the market to gather all the necessary ingredients:
• Fresh Afang leaves
• Water leaves
• Tender meat
• Fish
• Crayfish
• Periwinkle
• Peppers
• Palm oil and more.

I did not fail to snap photos of every moment to capture each step of my cooking process. Back home, I got to work. First of all, I sliced the Afang leaves and pounded them in a mortar, setting them aside. Next, I carefully washed the water leaves three times to remove any sand or dirt. After slicing them, I squeezed out the bitter taste.

With my ingredients prepared, I heated up my cooking pot and added each component in harmony. Fifteen minutes in, I added the squeezed water leaves, followed by the pounded Afang leaves, stirring everything together. Two minutes later, my soup was done.

I paired my steaming hot Afang soup with a bowl of garri and sat down to enjoy my hard work with my lovely son, Princewill. The flavours danced on my palate, and the warmth of the meal filled my heart. It was a truly satisfying moment, one that reminded me that every day brings fresh activities and moments to cherish.
