Parents’ Embarrassment.

in Steem Kids & Parents2 months ago

Today, I went to get my dog Beenu’s vaccine from the vet. On that journey, I stopped at the Arpico Supermarket in the town. I asked my husband to stay with Beenu in the car, and I went inside to buy some goods. As soon as I entered the supermarket, I was surprised by the thing I saw.

A four-year-old girl was lying on the floor of the supermarket. She was crying loudly, shouting, and rolling on the floor. She was crying for a toy, but it was very expensive. Her parents tried to control her, but she was continuously crying and rolling on the floor. People in the supermarket surrounded the kid. Some people were looking at each other, and some were laughing at the girl. Her parents were very embarrassed and helpless. I understood how difficult it was for them. I felt sorry for the parents, as I understood their stress.

So, I decided to help them. I have some ability to attract kids' attention. I took out my mobile phone and showed the girl a photo of our Beenu.

So, I decided to help them. I have some ability to attract kids' attention. I knelt near the kid. Then, I took out my mobile phone and showed a photo of our Beenu to the girl.

When she saw the photo, she stopped crying a little. Next, I gently told her, “This is our Beenu. He’s in our car now. Would you like to see him?” She looked at me with interest and stood up without saying anything.

Later, I asked her parents if one could go shopping inside while the other one could come with me to watch Beenu. Her father agreed to come with us while her mother did the shopping.

We walked to our car and explained the situation inside the supermarket to my husband. He understood the situation and opened the car door. Her worried face turned into a big smile when she saw our Beenu. She was very happy to see Beenu with a wagging tail. She quickly befriended our Beenu and stayed in the rear seat. His father was also near her.

Then, the mother of the girl also joined us after completing her shopping. She thanked me warmly and said, "If you didn't help, I would have to buy that expensive toy to stop her crying.

She further said that this kind of behavior happens often. She said that when her daughter needs something, she starts to cry loudly. As they want to stop her crying, they usually give her what she wants.

After listening to her story, I shared bits of advice with her. I requested her not to give anything when she was crying. Instead, let her cry. I gently explained to the mother that giving in every time is not the solution. If the child understands that crying can get her everything, she will keep using it as a tool.

Parents can teach her that she can't gain anything just by crying. Let her cry for a while. She may cry even louder at first, but slowly she will understand that crying does not work.

I also asked her to use a reward chart. When she behaves well five times, give her a small gift, such as a sweet, or play outside. This way, she will learn to act nicely to get rewards, not by shouting or crying.

Later, both the mother and father went happily with their daughter, thanking us again and again.

Both my husband and I felt very happy as we could help that family to come out of that embarrassing situation.

MODs Comment/Recommendation:
To be honest, it's not always helpful especially if done in public but old school parents were used to it. They feel if they embarrass you in front of your friends, you'll learn better. Did you sometimes hate your parents when such happened?.
