One Picture, A Thousand Story-Wk17
I woke up one day having the feeling of changing my style, "having my hair cut" this decision came with a lot of consideration. Because for many years, plaiting my hair was my go-to style. I had grown so used to the rhythm of parting, weaving, and styling that it became more than just a look, it became part of my identity. Whether it was braids, twists, or cornrows, I loved the creativity and elegance that came with plaited hair. But over time, something within me began to shift. I wanted a change. A bold one. One that would speak of growth, confidence, and a new phase of me. You know that feeling you will have when you are uncertain of how the outcome will look like.
After much thought, I decided to cut my hair. I looked at myself in the mirror, and saw a different me. Waoow I said to myself, vicvine So u actually cut it.
It wasn't easy to cope with different people's comments and complaints, some positive, some negative, some very frustrating. But all the same my decision was boldly taken because I expected all of this , so I had my way of dealing with it.
This decision wasn't just made in a day, for several days I will stand front of the mirror imagining what I’d look like without the long strands I had grown so attached to. But one morning, with courage and a bit of excitement, I walked into the barbershop. The clippers buzzed, and I watched as each section of my hair fell to the ground. It was a freeing moment. With each cut, it felt like I was shedding more than just hair, but my pride.
After the haircut was done, I didn’t stop there. I decided to give it an extra pop by adding color. Another difficulty I had was choosing the colour. I imagine myself in different colours and finally chose a bold "Gold" spray, something vibrant but tasteful, that would bring out my skin tone and express my personality. As the barber sprayed the final touch and the mirror reflected a brand-new me, I couldn’t help but smile. It felt like stepping into a new season. This was the new me, simple but fashionable.
To be truthful, I answered questions till I got tired, everywhere I go, people ask, “Why the change?” And my answer is simple: Sometimes, because this is me, and change is sometimes necessary.
If I may asked, have you ever experienced something that you made a strong decision despite comments from different people?.
Today, I’m returning to plaiting. I’ve decided to start with simple braids as I begin growing my hair back.
