Pictures tell a thousand stories-Wk26
On a sunny morning, a modest coffee house on the border of a rice field was calm and tranquil
A mild wind brought the sizzling smell of yellowing rice to the nose, indicating harvesting was near. A few people sat leisurely, sipping their coffee and chatting casually. They included two men, seated at a wooden table, warming smiles on their faces, as they shared a friendly encounter in the midst of country surroundings.
The white shirted man seemed in great humour. He had been working in the city and came to the village for rest, and he was much looking forward to meeting an old friend who was a villager. On the other hand, the man opposite him, clad in unpretentious athletic clothing, savored a laid-back talk as he drank an iced coffee. They laughed, thinking about the good old times when they used to run around on the field, now turned into a patch of yellowing rice paddy.
The coffee house was indeed the hub of the local people. In addition to the fragrant Acehnese drink, you can also enjoy a relaxing view of the rice fields. Two of the other visitors were deeply involved in a discussion about the impending harvest, and a man sitting in the corner appeared thoughtful as he looked out over the sea of rice, evidently lost in thought.
Everything was set in the backdrop of a plain sameness that still defines the village way of life. There was none of the noise of traffic, the city racket - only laughter and the fragrant warmth of coffee.
The two friends talked on and on about their plans for the future and talked for countless hours about ways to establish small businesses in their own village. They were convinced that their village would prosper if they poured their energy and unity into it, without going against tradition and family.
None of them seemed to be flagging as the day progressed. And in the mirth and chatter bloomed a plain, simple happiness — one so rare that it beggars description. In this small coffee house on the edge of―or right in the middle of?―the endless rice patty fields, they gave you not just coffee, but the comfort of friendship, relief for the soul, that little something that anyone who stopped by could take with him or her.
