SLC27-W1 | The Beginning of Becoming a Youtuber
Welcome everyone to Steemit Learning Challenge Season 27. I hope you are all doing well. First of all, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to @steemitblog for this opportunity and to all my friends. I would also like to welcome you to the Learn to Become a YouTuber from Zero to Pro class. This class will run for 6 weeks, and I will share my experiences with YouTube, starting from the basics all the way to being ready for monetization and branding.
In this first week, we will learn the basics of YouTube so that we can understand what it takes to become a YouTuber. To provide more direction to the material I will be sharing, this week's lesson will outline three main objectives, including:
Objectives: |
---|
- To understand the opportunities and challenges of becoming a YouTuber.
- How to create a Google account and YouTube channel.
- Participants will understand the basic features of YouTube Studio
Materials |
---|
This week, I will share some materials titled “How to Become a Youtuber.” We must understand that YouTube is not only a place for entertainment to watch movies, videos, music, and so on, but YouTube is also a platform for creating content, developing communities, and even generating income. YouTube is a platform where people share videos according to their interests, ranging from children's content, educational content, news content, movies, and so on. We all know that there are many YouTubers who have become wealthy individuals in the world, such as Jimmy Donaldson owner of the MrBeast channel, Cristiano Ronaldo owner of the UR Cristiano channel, and others.
Do you want to be just a viewer on YouTube, or do you want to earn extra income? Perhaps the answer lies within each of us. Now, to become a beginner YouTuber, I know that many of us already know about this, but I will try to share it with beginners. Let's first look at the basics of creating a YouTube channel:
1. Creating a YouTube Channel |
---|
You need to know that YouTube is a video sharing platform officially owned by Google. Therefore, to create a YouTube channel, you must first have a Google account, which is a mandatory requirement.
- You need to sign in to YouTube using the Google account we have registered.
Next, open the YouTube page, select the profile photo in the upper right corner, then select “Create channel.” (If you already have a channel, you don't need to do this, but if you need to change it, you can customize it with the content that will be uploaded to your YouTube channel later. Your YouTube channel name and profile can be changed once every 14 days). - Next, choose your channel name.
For the channel name, you can use your real name, nickname, or a specific name that fits the channel's theme (there are many themes to choose from, such as gaming, education, vlogging, reviews, and others). Remember that you should choose a name that is easy to remember, not too long, and most importantly, represents the content of your YouTube channel.
2. Setting Up Channel Display (Complete with Verification) |
---|
Well, before you set up the appearance of your YouTube channel, it is very important to verify your YouTube account first. The steps are as follows:
- Make sure you are logged in to YouTube Studio with your Google account.
- Select your profile photo, then select YouTube Studio.
- Next, select Settings → Channel → Feature Eligibility.
- Here you will be asked to verify your phone number.
- You need to enter a valid mobile number for your country → select SMS or voice call.
- Finally, you need to enter the 6-digit code sent by Google → done, your account is now verified ✅
Once your YouTube channel has been verified, you can upload long videos, set custom thumbnails, and prepare your channel for monetization.
- Profile photo
For your profile, you can use a simple logo or a clear photo of your face (if personal). The ideal profile photo size is 800x800 px. (JPG, PNG, and similar formats)

---|
- Place a channel banner
You can find the banner at the top of the channel. The banner usually contains the channel name or a description of the channel. The ideal size is 2560x1440 px (but you need to make sure that the text/logo is within the safe area of 1546x423 px so that it is not cut off).
![]() | ![]() |
---|
- Channel description
The channel description contains a brief explanation of the content you share, for example:
“This channel contains video editing tutorials, food or place reviews, and so on.” People usually also include their social media links or email addresses.
3. Getting to Know YouTube Studio |
---|
YouTube Studio is like a “headquarters for YouTubers” where they can manage their channels. Its main features are:
- Dashboard
This menu contains the main display with a summary of your channel, including the number of subscribers, the performance of your latest videos, and important notifications. - Content
This menu contains a list of all the videos you have uploaded, along with their public status (public, private, unlisted). From here, you can edit the title, description, tags, thumbnail, or delete the video. - Analytics
This is an important section for reading audience data, such as:
Number of views, watch time, traffic sources (where viewers come from), audience demographics (age, location, device). - Monetization
This menu will appear if your channel meets the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) requirements, namely: 1,000 subscribers, 4,000 watch hours in the last 12 months, or 10 million Shorts views in 90 days. From here, you can sign up to earn money through ads, memberships, or super chats.
