Status of the Markhor Animal Population (Pakistan's National Animal) |
---|
A wild goat with long twisted horns is called Markhor. It inhabits Pakistan's mountains in the north and west. The unusual mammal known as the markhor is currently endangered. Just a few thousand remain in the wild. In the past their populations declined because to habitat degradation and poaching. They were hunted for their meat and horns.
However their population is currently gradually increasing thanks to initiatives by the local government and communities. In addition to being Pakistan's national animal the markhor is a unique representation of our nation. People are now more cautious and conscious of the need to protect it.
Reasons for Environmental and Habitat Changes |
---|
The woodlands and steep mountains are Markhor's home. However human activity is destroying this ecosystem. In these places people pasture cattle construct roads and cut down trees. The Markhor are forced leave their house as a result. Hunting and unlawful shooting were also major issues in the past. Markhor began to relocate to higher and riskier locations out of fear and disruption.
Their surroundings are likewise being impacted by climate change. These animals struggle because they have less food and water. The Markhor was endangered for all of these reasons. It is regarded as a unique species in Pakistan because it inhabits the country's mountains.
Legal Protection and Status |

The local communities receive the majority of this funding which aids in animal protection. Markhor is also listed under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES). This implies that it is illegal to trade its body parts. This lovely animal is being saved because to these policies and initiatives.
