Protected animals in my country Of Russia

Hello everyone I'll tell you about it today as part of the competition "Protected animals in my country #29" about the amazing animal that is protected in my country is the Lynx. The photos presented in this post are all mine, taken at our city zoo. And I live in Russia, not a big city of Belgorod.

Lynxes are real ancient animals. Their family has been developing for five million years. Imagine that all these cats had a common ancient ancestor — It was the lynx Issoire Lynx, a large and powerful beast. These cats don't have a long body, let's just say, and their paws are strong and long, which immediately catches the eye.

It has always surprised me that lynxes belong to the subfamily of Small cats — Felinae. They can't growl loudly because they have a special bone under their tongue that freezes and prevents them from growling, but instead they make such shrill sounds, reminiscent of the roar of a bear. And the funny thing is that they purr and meow just like domestic cats.

Lynxes also look very impressive — their fur is thick, so much so that the hair grows even between the fingers. Especially in winter, when the legs are covered with such a fluffy layer that the lynx calmly walks through deep snow, almost without falling through. Their front paws are slightly shorter than the hind ones and have 4 toes on each paw, and sometimes 5 on the hind ones, although two of them are almost unused. And by the way, lynxes walk with their fingers, like all cats.

I've seen their claws are sharp and retracted, curved—that's why they're such dexterous climbers of trees and rocks. Lynxes usually move stealthily or at a "cat trot." Their jumps can be long, up to 3-4 meters, but this rarely happens. Lynxes can race at speeds up to 65 km/h, though not for long. In general, animals can travel long distances, and they can swim perfectly.

Another interesting fact is that their tails range from 10 to 30 centimeters, which is quite short for cats. The tip of the tail is usually black, sometimes white, which is unusual. The lynx weighs about 20 kilograms, but sometimes there are large individuals up to 25 kg. Males are usually larger than females, as is customary with many animals.

Changes in Lynx habitat

Imagine that lynxes live in a place where there are many forests and spacious clearings — they need a place to hunt and hide. But now it's happening that people are building roads, cities, or cutting down forests, and the lynx is simply getting smaller houses. Because of this, it is increasingly difficult for her to find food and live in peace. In addition, the animals that the lynx hunts can also decrease, and this is another problem.

Another point is that due to the fact that the forests are divided into small areas, lynxes cannot freely go to new places and find a mate. This leads to the fact that the number of lynxes decreases, and they begin to disappear. After all, when the place to live becomes smaller and people are often nearby, it is simply difficult for animals to survive.

In general, the lynx is considered a typical animal, for example, for Russia or Scandinavia, because there are many forests with suitable conditions here — it is cold, spacious and few people in the wild. The lynx traditionally has good living conditions here, which is why it is associated with our nature.

In Russia, the lynx is a protected animal. It is protected by a law called "On the animal world." This law says that you can't just take a lynx or kill it, because there aren't many of them left, and they're under threat.

In addition, the lynx is listed in the Red Book of Russia, which is a list of animals that need special care. Therefore, hunting them is prohibited, and they try to preserve the places where they live. There are nature reserves where the lynx feels safe.

Of course, it is difficult to strictly observe these laws, but they are very important so that the lynx does not disappear altogether. If people take care of nature, then it will be easier for lynxes to live.
