Why didn't the USSR have an economic boom after WW2 like Germany did?
The Soviet Union became a superpower after WW2, despite the fact that they were embargoed from trade by much of the world, had just lost over 20 million people in WW2, had suffered the most devastating damage to its infrastructure of any country except Poland, was the target of economic warfare from a country that had not suffered in WW2 at all and had way more resources than the USSR did. And did this while also reconstructing all of eastern Europe, establishing healthcare and universal education, building a space program and developing nuclear energy.
Minsk was reconstructed nearly from the ground up as a modern city in 10 years.
West Germany received money from the USA. East Germany received money from the USSR.
In what world is having someone else pay for all your stuff an economic boom?
