Bireuen Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Holds Information, Communication, and Education Socialization in Disaster-Prone Areas.
Sixty-three participants attended the Information, Communication, and Education Socialization (KEI) in Disaster-Prone Areas, held by the Bireuen Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD).
The event was opened by Acting Regional Secretary Hanafiah, SP CGCAE FRMP, at the Wisma Bireuen Jaya Hall on Thursday, August 7, 2025.
The Head of BPBD Bireuen, Afwadi, BA, stated that the purpose of the event was to raise awareness regarding potential disasters in Bireuen and to align perceptions with all stakeholders, from the district, sub-district, and village levels, regarding disaster management.
The results are expected to provide information and understanding regarding potential disasters in the Bireuen area and to achieve a common understanding among all stakeholders regarding disaster management, he explained.
This outreach was conducted in the form of a panel and featured three speakers: Subhan from the Aceh Disaster Management Agency (BPBA), Ramos Lumbang Tobing from the North Aceh Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Head of the North Aceh Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BPBD) Head of Bireuen.
Acting Bireuen Regional Secretary, Hanafiah, in her remarks, stated that Bireuen is a regency in Aceh with a high potential for various natural and non-natural disasters.
Recurring disasters in Bireuen include floods, landslides, strong winds/tornadoes, coastal abrasion, landslides/liquification, and earthquakes. Fire prevention also remains very high, with 124 recorded in 2024, and 128 as of August 4, 2025.
The Regional Secretary continued, explaining that the diverse potential for disasters in Bireuen requires contributions from various parties, both during and after a disaster, to ensure optimal disaster management in Bireuen.
"I hope all sub-district heads and village heads will play a role in educating the community about fire prevention, both at every meeting and when interacting with residents in their villages," said the Acting Regional Secretary.
He stated that disaster management is not solely the responsibility of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), but a shared responsibility of all parties, providing information and education to the community, especially in disaster-prone areas, about potential disasters according to the characteristics of their respective regions.
