Every city has its own long history and is sometimes built on pools of blood and tears. Likewise with Jakarta which was fought over in the past even before Indonesia was established as a sovereign country.

Various references state that Jakarta has many names, depending on who the ruler is. It used to be called Sunda Kelapa (4 AD - 1527). Notes in the Jakarta Museum state that Sunda Kelapa was a settlement and port city controlled by Hindu kingdoms such as Tarumanegara and Sunda Hindu.

But in 1527 it was replaced by Jayakarta by Prince Fatahillah or Falatehan if spelled in Portuguese. "Jayakarta means absolute victory". Betawi historian, Babe Ridwan, said that Falatehan comes from Armenian which means Fire Starter.

Well, the history of the origins of Prince Fatahillah is still unclear until now. Historian H.J. de Graaf said that Fatahillah came from the Samudra Pasai Sultanate which is now part of North Aceh Regency.

He went to Mecca when Malacca was controlled by the Portuguese. From Mecca, Fatahillah continued his journey to Demak.

The notes can be seen in the Jakarta City Museum located in the Old City, Jakarta. Vacationing in the Old City is a series of visits to several other museums in the Old City covering an area of 1.3 square kilometers.

In the Old City of Jakarta there is also the Wayang Museum and the Indonesian Postal Museum. Visitors can also see the Old City Art Street, Djakarte Art Shop, Glodok Chinatown Market, Bank Indonesia Museum, Batavia Cafe, Intan City Bridge, and many more.

There are at least 19 destinations that can be visited in the Old City of Jakarta so that one day is not enough time to be here.

When Jayakarta was controlled by the Dutch (more precisely the Vereenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie), Jayakarta changed to Batavia in 1619 - 1942.

The Dutch left and the Japanese came, Batavia became Djakarta Tokubetsu Shi (1941 - 1945). And since 1945 until now its name has changed to Jakarta.
