Community Shield 2025: Crystal Palace Champion

The Community Shield is an annual English football match contested at Wembley Stadium between the previous season's Premier League champions and the FA Cup winners. For 2025, the Community Shield will pit Premier League champions Liverpool against FA Cup winners Crystal Palace. The 2025 Community Shield will take place at Wembley Stadium in London on Sunday, August 10, 2025, in the early hours of Western Indonesian Time.
The Eagles, nicknamed Crystal Palace, surprisingly emerged as the 2024-2025 FA Cup champions after defeating title favorites Manchester City. Crystal Palace also made history by winning the 2025 Community Shield after defeating the 2024-2025 Premier League champions, Liverpool, in a penalty shootout, 3-2, on Sunday, August 10, 2025, at Wembley Stadium, London. The opening match of the 2025-2026 season ended in a 2-2 draw after regulation time.
This was the first Community Shield title for manager Oliver Glasner's Crystal Palace squad. Liverpool took the lead in the fourth minute through new striker Hugo Ekitike, who capitalized on Mohamed Salah through ball. However, Crystal Palace equalized in the 27th minute through Eberechi Eze. Entering the second half, the Reds regained the lead through Dominik Szoboszlai long-range goal in the 58th minute. However, Crystal Palace once again showed their winning spirit by equalizing through Jean-Philippe Mateta in the 82nd minute.
The 2-2 draw forced the match to go to a penalty shootout. Crystal Palace's three penalty takers were excellent, while Liverpool's only two penalty takers were successful. The 2025 Community Shield title provides Crystal Palace with valuable capital for the 2025/2026 season.
