Regent Lays Cornerstone for Major Renovation of SDN 2 Bireuen Fire-damaged Technical Implementation Unit.
The Regent of Bireuen Regency, H. Mukhlis, ST, laid the cornerstone for the reconstruction of four classrooms and a teacher's room at the Bireuen State Elementary School Technical Implementation Unit (UPTD SDN 2 Bireuen), along with all their furnishings, which were destroyed by fire on Tuesday morning (August 19, 2025).
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by the Head of the Education and Culture Office, Dr. Muslim, MSi, and staff, as well as the Head of the Public Works and Housing Office, Ir. Fadli Amir, ST., MT., IPM ASEAN Eng. It took place after a peusijuk (instructional instruction) by Tgk M. Nasir.
Before beginning the foundation pouring process, the Regent also re-measured the area of the foundation pit and reviewed drawings of the newly constructed or heavily renovated classrooms to ensure accuracy.
The Head of the Bireuen Education and Culture Office, Dr. Muslim, MSi, stated that to resume teaching and learning activities at SDN 2 Bireuen, the Bireuen Regency Government is advancing major rehabilitation of the burned school building in 2025.
The budget for major rehabilitation of classrooms and furniture at the SDN 2 Bireuen Technical Implementation Unit (UPTD) is Rp1,426,800,000, sourced from the 2025 General Allocation Fund (DAU).
He stated that four classrooms and their contents were burned, and several surrounding rooms were also affected by the fire. A hallway was added to provide comfort for students and teachers when entering and studying.
This major renovation included the addition of a hallway at the front of the classroom to prevent rainwater from entering the classroom. All school furniture that had been burned was replaced, including the air conditioner (AC).
"We are undergoing extensive renovations on four classrooms, including the principal's and teachers' rooms that were burned down. The roofs of several classrooms affected by the fire are being renovated and hallways added," explained Dr. Muslim.
Wardah, Head of the SDN 2 Bireuen Technical Implementation Unit (UPTD), expressed her gratitude to the Education and Culture Office and the Bireuen Regency Government for their assistance in rebuilding the school's classrooms that were damaged by the fire, which occurred early Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 2:30 a.m. WIB.
During the reconstruction, teaching and learning activities continued in parallel in several other classrooms. We have 12 student groups, and three of the burned classrooms were in the same class.
It was also explained that our children are in three classes, there are more than 60 students, they go to school using a parallel system in the classroom located above near the residents' houses, namely grade 1 and grade 2 students enter at 07.30 to 10.00 WIB, grade 3 from 10.00 to 12.30 WIB, explained Wardah.
