Regent Receives USK Students for Thematic Literacy Community Service in Bireuen.

A total of 129 students from Syiah Kuala University (USK) Banda Aceh were received by the Regent of Bireuen to carry out the Thematic Literacy Community Service (KKN) in 13 villages in 8 sub-districts in Bireuen Regency, Wednesday (2/7/2025) morning, at the Kapuspemkab.

The handover of the students to the Regent of Bireuen, H Mukhlis, ST was handed over by the Rector of USK represented by the Deputy Chairperson of the USK Banda Aceh Research and Community Service Institute (LPPM), Dr Dra Sulastri, MSi, accompanied by the signing of the handover minutes, plaques, and the pinning of participant badges.

The Deputy Chairperson of LPPM USK Banda Aceh, Dr Dra Sulastri, MSi in her report said that the students participated in the KKN activities for 30 days and stayed overnight in the villages that were the targets of student service activities in 13 villages in eight sub-districts.

The Deputy Chairperson of LPPM USK explained that in May 2025, his party received an invitation to discuss with the National Library in Jakarta, stating that there was a special program from the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture (Kemenko PMK) through the Minister of State Secretary, namely that literacy activities were an important national program.

So that Syiah Kuala University was appointed to carry out accompanying activities to community reading parks that had received assistance of 1,000 books from the National Library in 2024.

"USK accompanied literacy activities to 98 villages in Aceh Besar, Bener Meriah, Pidie Jaya, Bireuen and East Aceh involving 980 students, for Bireuen, data on community reading parks that were actively engaged in literacy in the moderate category in 13 villages to be accompanied," he explained.

"We hope that the 1,000 aid books can be utilized optimally by the community to improve health, financial and other literacy. Our students are in Bireuen for 30 days and are advised by the National Library and the commitment of the village receiving the books to facilitate housing for the students," he said.

Students are also expected to always maintain the customs and traditions at the activity location during the Thematic Literacy KKN, maintain the good name of the alma mater, hopefully the KKN can run smoothly later.

Meanwhile, the Regent of Bireuen, H Mukhlis, ST said that the KKN activity is one of the important stages in the process of character and leadership formation. The experience you will gain while in Bireuen Regency will be a valuable provision in your life journey, use this opportunity to learn, serve, and share.

"We hope that there will be good synergy between students and village officials, educational institutions, and other community elements. I appeal to all village heads and community leaders to welcome our students with open arms, support every activity they design, and establish harmonious communication during the implementation of KKN," concluded the Regent.
