The King of the Pole Vault | Mondo Duplantis

Hello, fellow Sports Enthusiasts,

What to say about this guy? He is insane, and indeed the GOAT and the king of Pole Vault. I started to follow him closely in the 2024 Paris Olympics, where he won the Gold medal with a world record. And that's not the craziest part; within a year, he has renewed his record four times. He is doing it like eating a cake, and no one is even near him to challenge his dominance.

He did it once again, on 12th August, winning the title at the Hungarian Grand Prix meeting in Budapest, clearing 6.29m.

Duplantis was born on 10 November 1999 in the USA. But he is representing his mother's country, Sweden. He is from a sports family. His father is also a pole vaulter who has crossed the 5.80 m mark. Therefore, he followed his passion since a kid and at age 7 seven he started to break world records, showing a bright future.

At the age of 16, he represnted Sweden for the first time in the 2015 World Youth Championships at the age of 16. From there, the rest is history.

His achievements and records

  • Two Olympic gold medals - Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024
  • World Championship - 2 outdoor(2022 and 2023) and 3 indoor titles (2022, 2024, and 2025)
  • Diamond League champion - 4 times in 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024
  • Current European champion
  • World U18 Championship in 2015 & World U20 Championship in 2018
  • World Record Holder

His world records progression

He broke the world record for the first time on February 8, 2020, with a 6.17 m jump. He broke a 6-year-old record of 6.16m set by Renaud Lavillenie in 2014. Legendary Ukrainian athlete Sergey Bubka had the record for 20 years before him. He is the first man to cross the 6m mark, as well. Only these two, and Duplentis, have crossed the 6.10m mark.

He crossed the 6-m mark in 2018, at the age of 18 years old, becoming the youngest one to do so. So, after 2020, as shown in the above table, he has broken the world record 13 times, cm by cm. Every time a world is broken by an athlete $ a 100,000 bonus will be received. That's why he kept breaking his record in this way. So, now he has $1.3 mn just by renewing the world record.

He is still 26 years old, and most probably he will renew the record several more times, and cement his status as the greatest Pole Voulter of all time.
