You know, this is one of the greatest and most beloved movie series of all time. I watched the Sinhala-dubbe version of this on television during my School holidays. This belongs to the fantasy genre with a unique story, magic, epic battles, etc.

It was created by Peter Jackson. He used the novel "The Lord of the Rings" written by J. R. R. Tolkien. It's unbelievable to think that someone has this much imagination.

There is a fantasy world calle Middle-earth with various races, like humans, elves, dwarves, hobbits, orcs, wizards, etc. Thousands of years ago, powerful rings were given to differnt Lords, but the Dark Lord Sauron created another one secretly to control all the others.

The story is centered around a hobbit, Frodo Baggins, who was tasked to destroy this ring with the help of a team known as the Fellowship of the Ring. So, let's see their journey.

1. The Fellowship of the Ring - 2001

The first movie began in a village of hobbits named The Shire, where a hobbit named Bilbo Baggins has the ring. As it progresses, we see the long history behind it. A long time ago, men and elves fought with Sauron, and the king of Men, Isildur, cut the ring from Sauron's hand. The ring has the power to corrupt and control those who have it. So, instead of destroying it, Isildur decided to keep it. Anyway, he was killed later, and the ring was hiden for thousands of years, until Gollum found it. From him, Bilbo took it, and after 60 years, Frodo received it from him.

Everything changed and started with this. Gandalf, the wizard, identified the truth behind the ring, and Frodo was tasked to destroy it in the fires of Mount Doom. Eventually, a team was formed with Aragorn, the elf Legolas, the dwarf Gimli, Boromir, Hobbits Sam, Merry, Pippin, and the wizard Gandalf.

Along the way, we see many battles, dangers they faced, the rising forces of Sauron, betrayals, sacrifices, and eventually one ambition to destroy the ring, no matter the cost. At the end of the first movie, Frodo took an individual path to Mount Doom with Sam.

2. The Two Towers - 2002

Gandalf's mentor wizard Saruman had joined forces with Sauron. They were creating and generating a big army and structure with Orcs, and other creatures to take back the ring and destroy the people of Middle-earth.

Frodo and Sam captured Gollum, who was following them to reclaim the ring. Anyway, Frodo decided to take his help on their dangerous journey. Gollum was well corrupted by the ring, and he was in a dilemma between good and evil. Meanwhile, others helped to rescue the king of the kingdom of Rohan and defend it from the rival army. We see a big battle at Helm’s Deep.

3. The Return of the King - 2003

This is the climax of the series, which won 11 Oscars, icluding the best picture. We had an amazing and satisfying end to the trilogy.

When Frodo and Sam were marching towards the Doom, Gollum betrayed them, and we saw many obstacles faced by them, where he almost died.

On the other hand, Aragorn united humans, elves, dwarves, and ghosts to face an epic battle at the Gondor and defeated Sauron's army. At the gates of Mount Doom, Frodo couldn't go with the Souran's army, and vision. So, Aragorn and the crew went there to distract the army and help Frodo.

With a dramatic scene with Gollum, and an inner dilemma of Frodo, they finally could destroy the ring, and along with that, Sauron, Mordor, and the Orcs were destroyed as well.

The middle Earth saved, everyone returned to their homes, while Aragorn became the king.

So, overall, it's one hell of a series. After more than two decades, the craze and the popularity it is immense. A complete team effort with high standards in every aspect. Not only the story and the direction, the cast's performance was particularly amazing. And also, the visual effects, Music, costumes, and makeups, everything received high praises.
