Weekly CRICKET Review - CI | Root on Fire
Hello, fellow Cricket Enthusiasts,
You already know that I am sharing a weekly wrap-up of what's happening within the Cricket community. And it's the 101st edition now.
As I discussed last week, the world of Cricket is pretty busy right now, especially with the ICC World Test Championship 2025-2027 cycle, and many shorter format matches. So, let's see what's going on!
India tour of England, 2025
Well, it's a high-tension series on English soil with 5 red ball matches. Both teams are well-equipped and well-armed. After losing the first match, India replied with a strong win in the second one at Edgbaston, Birmingham. Anyway, at Lords, England pulled off a stunning victory in the final session of day 05.
The fourth match is ongoing at Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester. India started the batting, and after playing for a day and a few hours, they scored 358/10 in 114.1 overs. Jaiswal and Rahul put in a 94-run partnership for the first wicket, scoring fifties. One down, Sai Sudharsan also scored 61 runs. However, no one could go for big innings.
Rishabh Pant got injured on the first day, playing his natural yet stupid shot against Chris Woakes. The ball struck his right boot, and doctors told him to rest for 6 weeks, but he came to bat again and scored a fifty as well. Stokes got a fifer and Archer took three wickets.
- The reply from England was just terrific. 669/10 in 157.1 Overs. Zak Crawley(84) and Duckett(94) started well and in a hurry. These two added 166 runs for the first wicket in just 31 overs. Then Ollie Pope scored 71 runs.
Joe Root then took the baton. Not only he score 150 runs, but he also broke many records. It was 38th Test hundreds for Root, being the fourth in the list. And now he has scored 13,409 runs in Tests. With this knock, he surpassed Rahul Dravid, Jacques Kallis, and Ricky Ponting and now holds the second position. No current batsman is even close to him right now.
Stokes also scored 141 runs, and England was leading by 311 runs. It's a mammoth total. So, let's see how the game turns out on the last day.
Australia tour of West Indies, 2025
It's another big series with 3 Tests, 5 T20s. Australia won the Test series 3-0, bringing shame to the West Indies. They didn't stop from that. The first four matches of the T20I series were also won by the Australians. We saw that any score by the West Indies was chased down by the Aussies.
The first match was at Sabina Park, Kingston, Jamaica. West Indies started the inning well, especially Shai Hope and Roston Chase scoring fifties and making a 90-run partnership for the second wicket. However, from 166/3 in the 16th over, they ended up scoring just 189/8. A major collpase. Dwarshuis took four wickets.
Aussies get going well, but they lose 4 wickets for 78 runs. Cameron Green and Mitchell Owen scored quick fifties to chase the target in the 19th over, with three wickets remaining.
- In the second match at the same venue, WI scored 172-8. It was Andrew Russel's last international match. The balling and field performance from the WI was very poor. They got the openers pretty quickly. However, Josh Inglis and Green displayed a carnage getting the maximum use of drop ctaches. They chased it in 15.2 overs, with 8 wickets remaining.
*The next one was at Warner Park, Basseterre, St Kitts. At the start, Brandon King and Shai Hope completely stole the show, sharing a 125-run partnership in just 11 overs. Hope registered his first T20 hundred. Their score was 214/4.
Chasing a big target, the top order couldn't have the perfect start. They lost wickets quickly, but Tim David came to the rescue. He registered a 37-ball hundred to chase down the target in just 16.1 overs. He hammered 28 runs against Gudakesh Motie in an over. He crossed 50 runs in just 16 balls.
- Any score wouldn't have been safe against Australia in this T20 series. It proved once again in the fourth match as well. Once again West Indies registered 205/9 batting first. This time, everyone chipped in nicely. Wickets were lost regularly, even though everyone scored rapid runs.
Aussie lost Marsh in the second ball, but Glenn Maxwell, Josh Ingli, and Cameron Green played bizarre fifties to chase another target in 19.2 overs with 3 wickets remaining.
Aussies have already won the series 4-0.
Pakistan tour of Bangladesh, 2025
After a winning T20 series in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh's next opponent was Pakistan for a 3-match T20I series. And they were once again victorious, 2-1.
The first match was at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka. It was a tricky pitch, and Pakistan's batters didn't do well. Only three players crossed double digits, as they could only score 109 runs. Mustafizur Rehman bowled a spell of 4 overs for just 6 runs, taking two wickets.
Bangladesh lost two wickets early, but Emon held the fort from one end, scoring a classic fifty. He had a good partnership with Hridoy, and Bangladesh chased down the target in just 15.3 overs with 7 wickets remaining.
- The second was even better from Bangladesh, on the same pitch. Batting first, they also struggled a lot to score runs freely. The top order failed, but Jaker Ali scored a fifty and had a good partnership with Mahedi Hasan to put in a respectable total of 133/10.
The reply from Pakistan was terrible. The top order failed terribly, with 3 ducks from the top six. At one point, they were 47/7, but Faheem Ashraf scored a convincing and quick fifty, and pairing with tail-enders came so close. The final score was 125/10, as Bangladesh won the match by just 8 runs.
- Finally, Pakistan batters did well in the third match, scoring 178/7 on the same pitch. Sahibzada Farhan scored a fifty, and others contributed well.
It was a horrible reply from Bangladesh. They lost a wicket on the second ball, and the score was 41/7, after the 7th over. Mohammad Saifuddin scored 35 runs, which was the highest and only 10+ score for them. As they balled out for just 104 runs, Pakistan won the match by 74 runs.
Jaker Ali was the man of the series.
