Beautiful Phuket | Part I | Old Phuket Town
During our vacation, we spent three days in Phuket. I’m going to split our time in Phuket into multiple parts to better cover the wide range of information about the places we visited, modes of transportation, and prices.
In this first chapter, I’ll share our experience visiting Phuket Old Town.
Phuket Old Town is a small area in the Mueang Phuket District of Phuket Province, Thailand. The town is famous for its Portuguese-style townhouses and the vibrant, urban vibe it offers.
What to do at Phuket Old Town
The first thing almost every tourist does in Phuket Old Town is admire the colorful buildings built with Portuguese-inspired architecture. You can think of Phuket Old Town as a Portuguese version of the Galle Dutch Fort. You can freely nevigrate through the streets, which are very clean and photogenic.
You’ll find plenty of cozy cafes and shops along your walk. Also, you can stop by Wat Klang, which is located within the Old Town area.
During our research, we also found that there’s a night market where you can enjoy a variety of delicious street food.
How to Visit
We visited Phuket Old Town twice. The first time was on our way from Phuket Airport to the hotel. It was in the morning, so the streets were much less crowded compared to the next evening.
The second time, we went to town using Bolt from Central Phuket, and on the way back, we took a bus from Phuket to Patong. It was just an 40 Baht (per person) bus ride and took about an hour to reach Patong. There were also buses to the Kata Beach area. You can use Google Maps to find the nearest bus stop.
These buses look more like a “lorry” and are known as Blue Songthaews.
If you're traveling from Patong, you can catch one from Patong Beach.
Best Attratctions
If you’re a girl (or anyone who loves beautiful decor!), don’t miss Korrakang Restaurant, a viral Instagram spot decorated entirely with artificial pink flowers.
And of course, make sure to check out the street art, which are perfect for stunning Instagram shots. We actually missed many of them, but you should definitely add them to your bucket list!
Soi Romanee, a charming alley, is also very popular. Finding these spots is easy if you get down in front of Wat Klang and stroll through the nearby streets, you’ll come across most of them!
How Long to Stay in Phuket Old Town
You’ll only need 1–2 days to fully explore the town. You can enjoy delicious food and drinks, and even do a bit of shopping. Prices inside the Old Town are a bit higher than in other areas, but the unique designs and charming atmosphere make it easy to get pleasantly distracted.
Don't forget to take your hat and sunglasses. It is very hot there!

@randulakoralage, this is a fantastic start to your Phuket series! I love how you've broken down your trip, focusing first on the vibrant Phuket Old Town. The Portuguese-inspired architecture looks absolutely stunning, and your photos really capture the colorful and charming atmosphere.
The practical tips on transportation, especially the Blue Songthaews, are super helpful for anyone planning a visit. And thanks for the heads-up about the night market and the Instagrammable spots like Korrakang Restaurant – definitely adding those to my list!
I'm already looking forward to the next chapter of your Phuket adventure! What other parts of Phuket did you explore? I'm curious to hear about the beaches and maybe some hidden gems. Keep up the great work!
