Bustling Bangkok | Part 3 | Santiphap Park

in Steem Sri Lanka27 days ago

We spent seven days in Bangkok during our vacation, and I’ll be sharing our experience in separate parts to give a clear picture of the places we visited, how we got around, and the costs involved.

In this third chapter, I’m going to talk about our first stop in Bangkok, The Santiphap Park.

Location and Entrance

On our arrival day, we chose to walk to Santiphap Park, which was only a 5-minute walk from our hotel. It was easy to find by following Google Maps. If you’re traveling from elsewhere, you can first stop at Victory Monument, and from there it’s just a 7-minute walk. The park is open daily from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m., and there is no entrance fee you can simply walk in.

A Bit of Background

Santiphap Park is a small urban park located in Ratchathewi with an interesting history. It was opened in 1998 to mark 53 years since the end of World War II. Because of this, it is also known as the “Park of Peace.” In the central pond, you’ll find a steel dove statue, symbolizing peace.

View

The park is very well-maintained and you’ll notice it the moment you step inside. Plants are arranged in neat patterns, with beautifully trimmed trees and creative sculptures that make fabulous backdrops for photos.

The park also offers a glimpse of the city skyline, with tall buildings visible beyond its borders. Inside, there are ponds, walking paths, plenty of benches, and even some workout equipment.

Birds and Animals

Santiphap Park is also known as a good spot for bird watchers. During our 1–2 hour stay, we spotted giant squirrels, monitor lizards, and a few water birds.

Mini Gardens

In one corner, we discovered sample home gardens with vegetable plants, flowering plants, and herbs. Many of these plants were familiar to us from Sri Lanka, which made me feel that Thailand and Sri Lanka are very close in terms of nature.

Beautiful Moments

One highlight was a patch of blooming hollyhock flowers, buzzing with bees and butterflies. We sat nearby, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere. The place was calm and almost empty that day, which made it even more relaxing.

Best Time to Visit

The best times to visit would be in the early morning (around 5–8 a.m.) or in the late afternoon (after 4 p.m.), when the sun is less intense. We visited between 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., and it was still enjoyable. Santiphap Park is a great little escape from the fast-paced Bangkok vibe, perfect for some quiet, quality time.

We hadn’t planned to visit Lumpini Park, the largest park in Bangkok, but if you have time, you definitely should!
