Tech Blog #224 | Nothing Phone 3 : Says it's a Flagship but it's NOT...
The "Nothing" brand has been there for a quite some time, and it is a bit mature now. From the start, it wanted to become a smartphone brand. But because of the lack of funding for the company led by Carl Pei, who is also the founder of OnePlus, they produced Earbuds at first and eventually moved to the #smartphone industry.
We all know Nothing's signature in their products: transparency. They like to release many things about their products on social media. They always wanted to make a #flagship device, but they waited until this year and came up with "#Nothing Phone 3".
When Nothing started making smartphones, they used the "Glyph Interface" to physically stand out from other smartphones. But with time, they understood its level of practicality and reduced the LED elements used to make it simpler.
And even in the last smartphone before Nothing Phone 3, the 3a Pro had a practical Glyph interface, but it vanished in Phone 3, and here it comes a "Glyph Matrix", a small display kind of a thing to see notifications and a bunch of nonsense?? That's a big NO.
And the other biggest red flag is the camera layout. It's like randomly placed dots. Just not a fan of it. I don't think many are fans of it. I don't know what the design team was thinking when designing this device. It's just bizarre.
And Nothing calls this "Phone 3" a flagship without using standard flagship elements. They've used Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 instead of 8 Elite, a non-LTPO display, and small sensors, which are smaller than the sensors in their midrange smartphones. That's quite disappointing. I didn't expect this type of device from them.
It's true; Nothing had small, small traits in their other devices, and they had an escape for it, "They are not flagships." But now, when they produce a flagship, there are more traits than in their midranges. Quite ironic, and I can't imagine how they would recover from this fall.
