Tech Blog #226 | Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 : The Best "Z Fold " Ever??
Samsung waits to make a big change in its smartphones. Like they wanted to wait and see what others do and learn from their mistakes, and go for the big deal. But when we look at the whole picture, what #Samsung shows as a brand new thing has already been done by a few companies a long time ago, but Samsung does it its own way. That's special.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 is a great example of this scenario. It brings the best of what Honor, Huawei & vivo have been developing for a few years, and it looks like a huge jump. Let's go through the major upgrades the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 brings.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 brings a slim and lightweight profile compared to last year. Its thickness measured 8.9mm when folded, which is 26% thinner than Fold 6. And it weighs just 215g, which is 3g lighter than the S25 Ultra. That's a great achievement. But to mention, some Chinese manufacturers had done better before.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 brings two LTPO panels, an 8-inch inner foldable panel, and a 6.5-inch cover display. It brings evenly sized bezels to look more premium. And it has applied a titanium-plated layer to protect the inner display. The Samsung Galaxy Fold 7 certifies IP48 for dust & water resistance, while some Chinese manufacturers bring an even IP5X certificate for their foldable.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 is powered by the Snapdragon 8Elite. And it is supported by LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage. On the software front, the device is colored by One UI 8 with Android 16. Samsung has promised to supply 7 years of #Android & security patches for this device.
Cameras had a good upgrade too. Back camera setup consists of a 200MP main camera from S25 Ultra, a 10MP 3X Telephoto camera, and a 12MP Ultrawide camera from the S25 base version. Quite a Samsung thing to do. And finally, Fold7 drops the cursed 4MP under-display selfie camera and brings a 10MP sensor with a dot.
The battery capacity is an area Samsung lacks compared to the competition. It packs only 4400mAh, while some Chinese #foldable smartphones pack 5000+mAh batteries easily with the help of Si/C technology. And it charges at 25W speed wired and 15W wirelessly. It could have been faster, though.
Regarding other important details, the Z Fold7 does not support the S Pen at this time. That's like killing the signature of Samsung flagships. With all these upgrades, Samsung has increased the price of the base model to 1999$!! That's a big price bracket for a #smartphone. And what you get is a smartphone and a tablet in one hand...
