How are you? Today, I am here to share with you the Dhaka River Port. Dhaka River Port, Sadarghat or (Sadarghat Launch Terminal)is located on the southern edge of the capital, Dhaka. We know the river port more than Sadarghat. The port is located on the banks of the famous Buriganga River. It is said that this port was built because of the Buriganga River. Not only that, according to historians, this river played a major role in making it the capital of Bangladesh.

The Sadarghat river port was founded long ago. Since the time of the Mughal Empire in the 1700s, goods and people used to travel from one place to another through this place. Gradually, the importance of this port increased. In the 19th century, it gained fame as a commercial port.
The port was very important from a strategic point of view. The port gained a lot of popularity for conducting business with the Portuguese, French, Dutch, British, and Armenians.

It became so important that this port was called the Venice of the East.
Muslin, silk, jute, rice, and many other goods were imported and exported through this port.
Many of the local elites have prepared their palace on the banks of this port. We can still see Ahsan Manzil, who cherishes the history of that time. We can also see Ruplal House.

The ancient port has been renovated several times due to the need of time, and its scope has also increased a lot as its importance has increased.
There are various means of transport from different parts of Dhaka to reach the Sadarghat port. There are all kinds of transport arrangements, including rickshaws, autos, CNG, and private cars.

Entrance ticket to enter the port

It is said that this port is the best means of communication between the capital Dhaka and the southern part of the country. Every day, hundreds of launches and steamers leave this port without interruption, carrying thousands of passengers and goods. Again, thousands of passengers come to Dhaka through this port for job, business, and study purposes.

Passengers come here to go to their destination

This launch has brought about development in many districts including Chandpur Shariatpur, Faridpur, Patuakhali, Khulna, Barisal, and others.
Passengers and goods are loaded and unloaded through the main Sadarghat. In addition, numerous launch steamers are anchored on the right and left sides of the main port. They come to the ghat according to their schedule and carry passengers and goods.

The port is very large. Currently, the port is managed under the government organization BIWTA. An expert team is always on duty to manage the port. They review the movement of the river with the help of radar and give instructions to the vessels. The launch or steamer takes the vessel out on the river according to the instructions.

There are strong wooden stair in the port
Each ship owner has an office inside the port. From there, the owners manage the activities of the ship.
The port keeps the entire place clean and tidy, keeping in mind the convenience of the passengers. There is a large restroom for the passengers to rest. There are fast food shops, restaurants, numerous fruit shops, and tea and coffee shops.

Beautiful atmosphere inside the port

I am a regular passenger of this port. My home district is Chandpur. So I use this port when going home.
Even today, I come to this port to go home. I know that everything here has to follow specific rules and regulations.

Large waiting rooms and a balcony are available in the port
A group of security personnel always works here. There is also a naval police. They always keep an eye on whether any misdeeds are committed outside the rules and regulations of the port.
There are many counters here for passengers to collect tickets. Passengers collect tickets from these counters and board their respective ships.

Security office and ship owners' offices are available in the port

To enter the port, everyone above the age of 10 has to collect a ticket. No one can enter without a ticket.
There is a slightly sloping staircase to reach the launch or steamer at the base of the terminal. In addition, there is a separate wooden staircase to get on the steamer. A group of dedicated workers are there to help them.

There are a lot of volunteers ready to help passengers

I enter the terminal. I walk around and inspect the entire terminal. I observe the busyness of passengers and launches. I observe the busyness of small boats in the river along with the wharf.
You cannot understand how important this historic port is in our economic activities unless you come here. Especially at night, almost every steamer transfers goods from one place to another. I myself feel proud of this port.
