Today, I would like to share with you about the 201 Dome Mosque of Bangladesh. I truly believe the design and craftsmanship of this mosque will be recognized worldwide as a unique piece of Islamic architecture. As far as history tells us, no mosque in the world has ever been built with 201 domes before. This sets a world record. This wonderful mosque is located in Gopalpur Upazila of Tangail district, Bangladesh.

A Brief History

Wonderful view of the mosque

The construction of this mosque, known as the mosque with the highest number of domes, began in January 2013. It is being built under the initiative of the Bir Muktijoddha Rafiqul Islam Welfare Trust. Interestingly, there is no single, well-documented name of the designer of the 201 Dome Mosque. Often, modern mosques are designed and constructed with the collaboration of multiple architects, engineers, and design teams. As a result, collective effort takes priority over individual recognition. For this reason, I cannot present details of one particular designer.

This mosque was the dream of Freedom Fighter Rafiqul Islam, who wanted to create something that has no second example in the world. Today, his dream has taken shape as a world-class piece of Islamic architecture. Some of the construction work is still unfinished, so the 201 Dome Mosque has not been officially inaugurated yet. However, the call to prayer (Adhan) is given here every day, and Muslims regularly perform their prayers inside. The mosque authorities hope that one day the Imam of the Holy Kaaba will come to inaugurate this unique mosque. Every Friday, well-known Islamic scholars of the country lead the prayers here and deliver sermons.

Architectural Beauty of the Mosque

The front of the mosque is so beautiful that once you see it, you just want to stare

The most amazing feature of the 201 Dome Mosque is its 451-feet-high minaret, equal to a 57-story building. This makes it one of the tallest brick-built minarets in the world. On the roof of the mosque, there are 201 domes in total, one central dome rising 101 feet high, surrounded by 200 smaller domes, each about 23 feet tall.

At the four corners stand four minarets, each 111 feet tall, and another four minarets, each 101 feet high. The tallest minaret, which is yet to be completed, stands on the southern side of the mosque. All the domes and minarets are decorated with golden-colored marble and brass, creating a truly breathtaking view.

Interior Details

The interior of the mosque was magnificent

The mosque has two floors, and it can accommodate about 15,000 worshippers at the same time. The main entrance door alone is made of around 50 maunds (approx. 1,875 kg) of brass. Above the entrance, the 99 names of Almighty Allah are beautifully inscribed in brass, adding to its spiritual and artistic value.

Perhaps the most astonishing part is that the entire Holy Quran (30 Para/Juz) has been engraved on brass inside the mosque. Nowhere else in the world has the Quran been preserved in such a unique way. This mosque is not just a place of prayer, it is a symbol of our nation’s pride and a timeless masterpiece of Islamic heritage.

The inside view of the mosque is truly peaceful. The floors are polished so perfectly that they shine like a mirror, reflecting everything beautifully. The entire mosque is air-conditioned, making it comfortable for worshippers. A large number of Muslims, both from home and abroad, will be able to offer prayers together here.

Final Thoughts

A lot of visitors came to visit the mosque or perform their prayer

The construction of this mosque is almost 90% complete, and I believe the remaining work will be finished very soon. A masterpiece like this is truly a matter of pride for our country. Many visitors from home and abroad already come here to see this incredible mosque.

As you can see in the pictures, whether inside or outside, the mosque is always filled with people. It feels amazing to think that such a unique piece of Islamic architecture exists in our country. Once the work on the minaret, which is as tall as a 57-story building, is completed, I’m sure even more tourists will visit this mosque.
