I have learned over the years here that you have been right in your position more often than not, especially looking back now. I have been wavering a bit on the EIP but like you say here the primary thing should be to implement ONLY the EIP and see where the shit falls. Then go about scooping, cleaning, and patching before going onto anything else. And now the seeming rush towards SMTs is quite laughable.
