Delicious Data Shak
Assalamu Alaikum,
This is called Data Shak. It looks like red spinach but is not the same. Its leaves are quite large, and the plant is tall—the stems are mainly used as data. When it is harvested, the leaves can be cooked, and the stems can also be beautifully prepared. Everything can be cut and cooked together.
Here, it has been brought in for cooking. On one side, the leaves have been cut, and on the other side, the stems are being trimmed to size. The stems are very large, so they need to be cut into smaller pieces, and the outer skin must be peeled off. After that, these should be washed thoroughly and then used for cooking. This can be prepared either as a bhaji (stir-fried) or as a curry, depending on preference.
