Follow Friday: International Women's Day
I just had to mark this day as I have met so many wonderful women through Steem. I think it has a better gender balance than other on-line communities I have been involved with. Before anyone asks, International Men's Day is November 19th.
Some will ask why women need a special day. The fact is that they still have less rights and other issues around the world. They are lower paid on average and excluded from many roles in some countries. A woman is far more likely to be assaulted by a man than the other way around. In any large group of business leaders or politicians women are likely to be in the minority. I think we can do better and one day a year to talk about that is the least we can do.
So I would like to highlight some of the women I have encountered on Steem.
- @redrica, @ultravioletmag and @teodora are the core of the London Steem community. At some of their events I have also met @rea, @inesafreedom and @susanlo.
- At the Steemfests I attended I was impressed by the number of ladies present. I cannot include them all, but I will mention @soyrosa, @techslut, @allasyummyfood, @shanibeer, @elizacheng, @gillianpearce.
- On the music side there are many fine female musicians including @soundlegion, @eugelys, @yidneth
- Through the TenKMinnows project I have met the wonderful @paulag who puts so much work into supporting the community. @erikah and @melinda010100 are also helping out with this.
- I also have to mention @rebeccabe who I have knows since before Steem, but have never met in person. She's a creative lady with plenty to say.

Wow, that is quite the list of ladies you have there. I am happy to say that I am familiar with more of them and their blogs that ones I am not. I consider that really good considering the number of users on Steemit and amount of content that is constantly flooding my feed. You really picked some winners!
