SLC26-W4 | Street Business Diaries: Service-based professions.
Basically, every male styles or shaves their hair. On Saturdays, you see people pull up in salons, waiting to be attended to. Why? They have church service to attend on Sunday, and they must look neat and clean with their haircut. On Sundays, schoolchildren who failed to plan during the week rush to cut their hair in preparation for school the next day. All these are services rendered by a set of people called BARBERS or HAIRSTYLISTS. Why is this important? Let's dive into business.
What types of service-based occupations are most in demand in your area? (Barber, mechanic, watch/glasses repairer, van ice cream vendor, etc.) |

To be honest, the service-based occupation that is in high demand in my area is barbering from the list. A person who carries out this service is called a barber. We usually call them 'hair stylists' if we want to be American in our grammar. To be a barber, you need no academic qualifications, but it's something that everyone needs. Without these people, I can just imagine how wild our men and boys would be. People like me will definitely look sick because keeping long hair doesn't fit me.

I look handsome every time I have a haircut because my face is more pronounced. This service-based occupation in my area can be based on partnership or sole proprietorship levels, but you won't be a successful person if you're alone. Why? This service is in high demand. People need this service every day, and if I'm to add especially, it would be men. There's no day a man or guy won't style or cut his hair to look good for an event or function.
The barbers here have wireless clippers to help cut or style men's hair to whatever style they want. We have local and classic salons. Classic salons like this one I'm reviewing aren't that comfortable, and the price for a haircut or style is moderate, but those classy salons would give you the best style and service you need at an affordable price, though not compared to those of the locals.
This is to say that in business, every customer has their choice, and they must always have a taste. So I decided to visit Smart Barber Shop along Mbiabong Road, off Oron Road, Uyo, to taste their services while looking for a perfect salon to correct my haircut. I stumbled on them in this glittering place of gold and silver. It's a new place, though, and needs visibility. The next question gives answers to whether I've used or paid for their services.
Have you ever used these services yourself or purchased anything? Show pictures + videos and show their prices. |

This is a service rendered to humanity at a cost. I don't need to purchase anything. I tested this place while looking for a salon to correct my hairline. My stylist wasn't careful enough or probably forgot that he shouldn't have taken my hairline inside. Furious, I decided to change salons and look for a new place. Unfortunately, I judged people by their looks and place of work and decided to check the urban part of my City.
Oh God, Smart Barber Shop looks expensive, clean, serene and qualified to be a salon for perfection. I walked in as someone that has money because their prices could make me scream. Aside from that, I could perceive quality, and I decided to give them a try and see if they could correct my hairline. This was when I used or paid for their services, which aren't free.

I was treated like a king, which I'm not. **Covered with clean linen, my neck was covered with a white strap to prevent tiny hairs from having contact with my body even though I was fully covered. I was asked what song I would love to listen to. Can you imagine? Who does that? I was also asked what I would love to be served.

The salon is as clean as white. I can comfortably eat and drink there, unafraid of germs. The treatment alone was worth the money. I've not been to such a comfortable salon in a long while. Why? Because of distance. I boarded a vehicle to look for this salon in town. The blades were so soft that I could barely feel a pinch, unlike those places I used to barb.
At the end of their service, they sprayed me with a methyl solution, which didn't hurt at all compared to the 100% alcohol my ex-hairstylist used to spray on me, causing me to scream from within. These are their prices and specifications.

Were you satisfied at the end of the work or were you ever disappointed? |

If there's anything I'm careful about in life, it's my hair. You don't cut my hair anyhow, and you shouldn't make a mistake, as your mistake can cause me pain. I've never been satisfied with my haircut. At some point, I'll see someone who can give me what I want, but along the line, he stains my white. I've changed over 20 Barbers because they cannot consistently satisfy me.

Smart Barber Shop gave me a reason to rethink that I can actually work with them and enjoy their services. I was over satisfied at the end of their service. Just look at the hair friction, the line, the carefulness, and the ability to focus on implementing the least service. I was happy they could correct my hairline. I hope they won't disappoint me on my next visit, as I don't mind paying extra to receive quality service here.
Do people appreciate the work of the shopkeeper? If you have personal experience, please tell us. |

I think I've already stated my experience, though not all. From the video, you can see another man shaving his hair in this place, and he was quite comfortable, enjoying his service. Shop owners close to this barbering salon have attested to the fact that they haven't seen any clean barbering salon in the village before and that this is the first.
I couldn't record what they said, but that was the information I could gather when doing my review. It's a new shop, and people are yet to know that this kind of place exists. As a way of showing my appreciation for the unforgettable service they rendered to me, I've decided to post the promotional video I made there on my social media handles so that people living close can attest to the quality rendered there.

There are two barbers there, and they work jointly in ensuring their customers receive satisfaction anytime they come. Instead of dropping in their barbing standard, they improve every day. The cleanliness was what attracted me to the place; if not, I would have walked past the place. Smart Barber Shop, located at Mbiabong, Uyo, is one of the best salons I've visited.
If you think your barber isn't doing well, stop the patronage because your hair is your health and looks, and your looks matter a lot. Don't patronise because of the affordability in price, whereas you aren't given what you want and the service is rendered in an unhealthy place. It's not about quantity. It's quality that defines who you are. I made a promotional video for Soft G.
