This contest is a challenging and very interesting one. After reading the rules of this challenge, I felt that it would be a little easier and a little harder because street food benefits our daily lives and satisfies our needs.

As always, that day I was very hungry after finishing my shopping. First I ate a cup of tea and a roti to relieve my fatigue. Cha roti is my favourite food, and people cannot move without this cha roti. There is no such person who does not eat these four rotis. So I ate a roti for ten taka and a cup of tea for 10 taka and talked to the shopkeeper uncle for a long time.

Then now the most trending street food is burnt chicken, noodles, pasta, burgers, haleem, beef, fried dal with shrimp, and fish cake. Jhal muri – I like to eat these foods, and everyone eats them. I ate two dal-smeared cakes and beef bhuri and ate them from this shopkeeper uncle for ten taka, and he took two cakes from me for ten taka, which in our local area costs one 10 taka.

Then I ate beef bhuri fried for 10 taka, and you can see I was given many, and this bhuri fried is kept at a minimum of 30 taka in my area. When you come to this Gulistan market in Dhaka, you will get many things for less money according to your ability.

After eating fried food, I went to drink sugarcane juice to quench my thirst. So here, a glass of sugarcane juice is always sold for 20 taka, ice is given with it, and after eating it, my life is filled and my stomach gets cold.

So when I was drinking sugarcane juice and I was taking pictures, a young boy was selling sugarcane juice, and when I took pictures, he was looking at me in a very bad way, which scared me, and when I was taking videos, he came up to me and said, 'What are you doing taking pictures, and why are you taking videos?' Then I explained the matter to him.

01 What kind of street food is available in your city or area?

We used to eat these foods in the city at one time, but now they have come to the area. An unemployed boy is now doing this street food business because when they finish their studies and cannot earn money, they open a shop next to their house and do this business. There are now many small shops in our area that sell these foods. They are now self-sufficient, and their shops are very crowded. People in the area now do not have to go far to eat. They save their expenses, and they can eat good food in front of their house. Now if someone in my family asks for this street food, I can immediately go to my area and bring these foods. At one time, to get these foods, I had to go to a big restaurant or a big bus stand, but now the food is available near the area.

02 Have you eaten these foods yourself? Show the taste and price of them in pictures and videos.

When I go out of the house, I eat a lot of street food, and then I become like a child; I don't know which one to leave and which one to eat. I eat so much food from outside. I am a small electrician, and I have to go to Kaptan Bazar in Gulistan, Dhaka, every few days, and when I go there, I always eat street food.

When I go to do photography or video, they look at me differently; they are afraid and think that they will be harmed through this video, so I first talked to them and explained the matter, and then I did some photography and video.

03 What did you learn about the struggle of the shopkeeper?

So I always talk to the uncle of the tea shop; I have many acquaintances there because I have been coming and going there for 7 to 8 years. And the people who do business here are very self-sufficient and financially very well-off because when business is done here, there is no residual sale; everything is sold in cash. And at the end of the day, their remuneration is 800 to 1000 taka. And those who do street food business are somewhat self-sufficient, while many people are not self-sufficient. Those who do business with shops earn a lot of money, their monthly income is high, and their children study well in school.

And I talked to this shopkeeper uncle; here too he sells everything in cash, there is no remainder, and he sells 1000 and 1500 taka throughout the day and makes a profit, and he is very wealthy, and his expenses are a little low because these raw materials are made and sold from here, and when someone in our area does this business, they spend 300 to 400 taka to buy them from Gulistan and rent a car, so they give us a little less food and keep more money.

I talked to the person who was selling sugarcane juice, and he was selling sugarcane juice there all day and earning a lot of money and selling it all in cash. And the person who was selling sugarcane juice thought that I would harm him by giving information about his pictures and videos to someone because nowadays many shopkeepers are put in danger by making pictures and videos. Then I talked a little about the person who was selling sugarcane juice. He said that he is doing very well here, but he has to pay a little more. But here he buys sugarcane from Jatrabari Arat in the morning, processes it till afternoon, sells it after evening, and sells it all day, and he earns a lot of money here. He earns 1500 to 2000 taka most of the time, and there are many people here.

04 What do you think about the importance of this small street food business in our society?

Now those who are unemployed are doing street food business. There are some places in our area where some beautiful places have been built on the banks of the river; there, things like pizza, burger noodles, and pasta are being sold, and these things are now very popular with people, and they eat them with their families. We have to spend a lot of money to eat these things in restaurants, but when we eat these foods on the side of the road, we can meet our needs with little money and enjoy eating them with our families outside in the open air. And there are some businessmen who do not develop their business, but they do business on a small scale, while there are some businessmen who do business on a very large scale but do business on the side of the road, but at the end of the day, their income is fairly good.

Sugar Cain?
It been long I had that. I remember back home we planted it in our home. A bunch of it, I can use it as much as I want. But here in the city, everything is expensive. You had to buy every single thing down to sugar cain. If you I show you the one tey sell at N500, you'll be amazed. Is funny how you were question on why you took pictures and videos. Most people do not understand it, thinking you want to use it for something bad... Not knowing it for something information... Making money 🤑
