SLC26-W4 | Street Business Diaries: Service-based professions.
Edited By LiveCollage
Hello Steemians,
It was midday in the heart of Ezzouhour Market, the sun at its highest and the air heavy with heat. I was wandering between the stalls when I heard a familiar whistle that made me smile instantly, the sound of the ice-cream man. Following it through the market, I found him with his simple cart: two rows of ice creams inside, kept cold in hidden compartments, and pushed forward with steady effort. Modest and basic, yet magnetic enough to gather people around him. For this week’s SLC26-W4 | Street Business Diaries: Service-based professions, I decided to share the story of this vendor who brings refreshment to the neighborhood, one cone at a time.
What service-based occupations are most in demand in my area?
In Ezzouhour Market, daily life depends on small but essential service-based professions. You can easily find shoe repairers working from tiny stalls, scooter and bicycle mechanics fixing flat tires or broken chains in minutes, key makers cutting new keys with their noisy machines, and tailors adjusting clothes on the spot. And of course, the street vendors who sell seasonal fruits, prickly pears in the summer, roasted chestnuts in the winter.
Each of these workers adapts to the rhythm of the market, offering affordable solutions that bigger businesses often overlook. Among them, however, the ice-cream vendor stands out when the heat is at its peak. His cart becomes not only a place to cool down but also a small gathering point for families, children, and passersby in need of relief.

Have I used this service myself? Prices and experience
Yes, I did! With the sun burning above me, I ordered a cone with two flavors : strawberry and chocolate. He served it directly with care, without any fancy wrapping, just simple and straightforward. The price was fair and very accessible: 1 DT.
Here is his price list:
Item | Price (DT) | Price (STEEM) |
---|---|---|
2 parfum (normal quantity) | 1.000 | 2.68 |
2 parfum (double quantity) | 1.500 | 4.02 |
Cone supplement | 0.500 | 1.34 |
My cone of strawberry & chocolate simple, affordable, and refreshing.
The flavors were fresh and tasty the strawberry sweet and fruity, the chocolate smooth and rich. The ice cream melted fast under the midday heat, but that only made each bite more enjoyable.

Halfway through still refreshing despite the heat of midday.
Was I satisfied or disappointed?
I was absolutely satisfied. For only 1 DT, I got a cone that was generous, flavorful, and refreshing. The price-to-quality ratio was excellent, especially compared to what you would pay in ice-cream shops or tourist restaurants, where the same portion could cost three or four times more.

The last crunchy bite still delicious till the very end.
Do people appreciate the work of this shopkeeper?
Yes, very much. Around his cart, I saw children excitedly pointing to flavors, families sharing cones, and young people laughing while enjoying their ice cream. His presence is more than a business, it’s part of the life of Ezzouhour Market. The way people recognize him, greet him, and return daily is proof of the trust and appreciation he has earned.

This small ice-cream cart, pushed by hand through the market, may look modest, but it represents much more: tradition, community, and the power of simple joys. For me, that cone in the middle of a hot day wasn’t only about cooling down it was about appreciating the vendors who keep our markets alive with their dedication.
