National Martyrs' Monument of Bangladesh - A Historical Place to Visit.
The National Martyrs Memorial Monument, also known as Jatiyo Smriti Soudho, is a monument built for the memories of the Martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971 and pre-independence historical events.

Brief Introduction
This monument carries the history of the Liberation War of Bangladesh. In 1971, the current Bangladesh was part of Pakistan, named East Pakistan. Continuous discrimination, exploitation, and other hateful activities by Pakistani authorities lead us to fight for our own. This is now known as our Liberation War. In that war, many civilians and armed persons sacrificed their lives for the freedom of our country. In honor of them, the governor of Independent Bangladesh wanted to build a monument.

Historical and Emotional Values
This monument describes our history of fighting for ourselves. Every year on Independence Day and Liberation Day, millions of people come here to pay their respect to the Martyrs. This monument is very close to our emotions.
Architecture
In the year 1978, with the design of engineer and architect Syed Mainul Hossain, the construction of the compound finally began.

Struture and Design
The structure of the main monument had 7 isosceles triangular pyramid-shaped walls, one after another. The front and center one is the tallest but narrowest. The outermost one is the widest but shortest in span. The pyramid-shaped walls are getting smaller in height and increasing in width from front to back. The height of the top and center pyramid is 150 Feet tall (46 meters). These 7 pyramid-shaped walls represent 7 historical events of pre-independence Bangladesh. There is an artificial lake in that area that covers most of the landmark.

Gates
There are three entrance gates. The main gate is in the middle. There are two mini-gates on the two sides of the main gate. But, most of the time, the east gate is used as a VIP entrance. On the occasional day, the VIP’s use that gate. At other times, that gate remained closed. Unless there is a lot of crowd, the main gate also remains closed. The west side gate opens at 10.00 AM and closes at 05.00 PM every day. Time zone follows local time, and it is GMT +6. It is prohibited to stay there before and after the time unless it is the 26th of March or the 16th of December. Which is respectively our Independence Day and Victory Day.

Views and Natural Aspects
The monument stands in the center of the area. The monument is so tall that you can see this from a long distance. A lot of people come here to visit the monument every day. Many of them come to pay respect, and some of them come here to spend their time with nature in peace.
The monument area is so large. Almost 84 acres. I mentioned earlier that there is an artificial lake that covers most of the land. Both sides of the monument are decorated with trees. Most of them are flowers. It makes the place more attractive to the visitors. People come here and take photos to keep this thing in their memories for the future.

Other Structures and Facilities
There is a Muktagachha for cultural activities. A mosque for prayer. The zonal Housing and Public Works office is located in the area. A tourist police booth for security and safety is also here. There are two separate helipads here. But there is no parking zone for the visitors. If needed, they can use the parking zone of a nearby shopping mall complex.
There are a lot of street food shops and other street hawkers sitting in front of the monument area.

My Opinion
This is one of my favorite places to visit. I like to visit there in the non-holiday season. Though thousands of people come here to visit every day, the vast area gives me a feeling that the place is still quiet. The colorful flowers, the artificial lake, and the sounds of birds give me a natural feeling. It gives a vibe of both history and nature.
