SLC26-W1 | Street Business Diaries: Street Food and Snacks.

Street food has a strong connection with a nation's culture and history. Think about it. What is the common street food in the country or region? Aren't they familiar with your culture and history? An interesting fact is that street food benefits both those who eat and the vendors. I will reveal this at the end of this post.

Welcome to another season of Steemit Challenge. In this season, there is a fresh and unique challenge, named Street Business Diaries, organised by our beloved @max-pro. In the first challenge, the topic is Street Foods. Here is my perspective on this topic.

What kind of street food is available in your city or area?

I mentioned earlier that street food has a strong connection with the people’s culture and history. My cities are not different from that. Bangladesh is a rice-based nation where rice is our main food. Alongside this, rice made other food items popular here. Like of Muri and Khoi (puffed rice and popped rice). As a street food, puffed rice is very popular, which is made with chillies and mustard oil, known as Jhalmuri. Potato-made food items are more popular here. Phuchka, Belpuri, Panipuri, and Daalpuri are equally loved by citizens.

In the streets of Bangladesh, Alovera juice, sugarcane juice, mango juice, lemon juice, and mixed fruit juice are common for drinking.

People used to eat bread, tandoori bread, and paratha as the main source of Starch. An affordable alternative to rice.

Have you eaten these foods yourself?

A students who live away from his/her family must taste the street food in my country. If I said, all the students of Bangladesh must taste any kind of street food here, that wouldn't be wrong. Yes, I do eat street food. Sometimes, to change the taste, sometimes for survival.

Usually, the taste plays the key role in street food. The more tasty the food is, the more popular it will be. Vendors know this truth and they always try to maintain the taste. The vendors have fans of their food. I was also a fan of a few vendors.

What did you learn about the shopkeeper's struggle?

The struggle of street food vendors is real and sometimes tragic. They had to maintain an unusual routine. From the beginning to the end, their struggle never ends.

Street food shopkeepers had to rely on their customers' satisfaction. The vendors who failed to satisfy their customers face a miserable life. The item they sold is food, which is easily perishable, so they had to make sure they succeeded in selling their items in time. The food that remained unsold, makes a huge loss for them. Many vendors lost everything in that process. Many are struggling to survive. Many are following a devious way and that is sad for us.

What do you think about the importance of these small street food businesses in our society?

The importance of the street is essential. In cities like Dhaka, where almost 30 million people live, street food is necessary. Many people had to leave their houses in the very morning without having breakfast. They know there is some food on the street. Students are the key customers of street food. Someone who has come a long way from home relies on street food. We need this street food for ourselves.

In my post, I am presenting a street food shop named Yeasmin Chotpoti and Phuchka House from my area on behalf of the street food. In this shop, you will find various kinds of street food. Chotpoti and Phuchka are popular. Jhalmuri is also a key food from here. Belpuri and homemade yogurt have separate fan bases. I provided the location of this street food shop.
