I am so much interested to participate in this educative contest where some of us we learn new thing particularly on how to control the overconsumption of food that's affecting each and everyone of us. Here is my opinion regarding the above topic.

Explain gluttony and how a person with such behaviours can be identified.

Gluttony is the overconsumption of food and drink that normally occurs among those people who are always greedy whenever they find free food within the community. Gluttony is common and is not new to us because a person consumes more than he or she needs. I see gluttony as an embarrassing behavior where you see people at an occasion requesting more food after they have already eaten what was served. Moreover, some of them often ask for takeaways to take home.

A person who is gluttonous will never be satisfied, no matter the amount of food you give them, and they hoard food in the house even if it spoils; they will not throw it away.

They do not normally consider the feelings of others, especially those who have not eaten since morning and they will still ask for more food whether they are full or not hungry. They eat excessively in a short period of time, and they do not feel shame or guilt.

Do you think a gluttonous person can be likened to just food and drinks? Explain.

Although gluttony is mostly associated with overeating food and drink, I see gluttony as the excessive possession of material things, as well as watching movies and playing video games without allowing anyone else to take over or shine. That's why some people often say that too much of everything is not good. Substance abuse is another example of gluttony, where youths take too much of it, which is very harmful to our health because it's toxic. Excessive use of social media is also considered gluttony, although some others view it differently.

What is your view of this? Do you think it's a natural situation or something one can manage or control? Tell us.

Some people consider it a natural problem based on their religious beliefs because gluttony can be overcome when we are satisfied with the little things we have. Parents need to caution their children at a young age; once they do that, it will help them manage whatever people give them within the community. It is not easy; it's something we can reduce gradually through parental upbringing and help them control their inner feelings whenever they want to engage in this bad behavior that may cause embarrassment to one's family. Managing this habit is necessary by controlling and educating your child not to eat excessive food or drinks, and they should be satisfied with whatever is offered to them on any occasion.

What advice do you have for people who find themselves in such a condition?

Gluttony is the kind of embarrassment that we can control as a result of excessive desire. Eating too much food can lead to obesity, which is not usually good for our health. The only thing we can do is to eat less food that is part of a balanced diet.

It's good to seek expert advice, especially from a social worker or psychologist, so that they can help you overcome this condition. Parents and teachers have a lot to do by telling those kids to appreciate what their parents give them and be satisfied with that. Parents need to warn their children not to take food or other things from strangers or kids from the same class in order to ensure good moral upbringing at a young age.
