REALITIES OF NIGERIAN MARRIAGE
Nigerian marriage don't just happen like it does in the movies. It's not just a thing of seeing someone that time and getting married to the person the next moment. Some marriages has been in trouble for those who married like that. Nigerians believe that before one could get married, the will date for long at least 5 years and above for them to get to know each others character and tolerance. They still believe that if someone is dated for just 2 years or less, there's every possibility that the lady would be hiding her true character. So dating longer will give but the opportunity to get to know their families better. Any marriage that just happened between the period of two years or less, just know that the lady got pregnant on the long run and the family of the man wanted the child. Most times, the marriage doesn't end well. After the child birth, the lady can be sent away.
The wedding of Precious my friend.
Precious is my friend from secondary, she is the only girl child of her parents and the are from Anglican church. Being an only child, she was kept from associating with lots of people and she fell in love with Victor who later became a priest in Anglican church. Precious hid her relationship for long, and at a time she wasn't finding it easy any more as she saw other people approaching Victor, she later got engaged to victor.
Bridal shower night
Bridal shower night is usually done a night leading to the day of the wedding. During Precious bridal shower night, the light went off and developed fault two hours to when the bride wants to begin, that made all the ashobi's to have more fun outside the lodge premises. We sang many igbo folk songs such as "onye na ako ede" which means who knows how to plant cocoyam and it lead us to mentioning people's names, we also sang "chota onye ga bu oyi mu" which means find who will be your best friend. We had lots of fun. And then prayed for the bride.
I couldn't snap during the bridal shower night because it was dark, there's no light
When it was time to ask the bride her advice to young people, she started it in a funny way and ended it with a big lesson to the young ladies who are yet to get married. She said "I will advise young people who wants to marry to remain single ohh, marriage is a scam. Be in your parents house and be eating mummy thank you". She then advised young people that they should in all times remember their relationship in prayers. Many young ladies out there are eyeing their man but if the want things to work out, they should pray to God to help them out. She has been dating her soon to be husband in few hours time for 8 good years. It wasn't easy and she can't tell us all she has been through but God is involved. She then. Prayed for us the single ones as we cut the bridal shower cake and went to bed against the wedding day.
