My Neighborhood Watch #118 – Observing Events in Our Community

Hi wonderful Steemians @Steem4Nigeria Community! A warm greetings to everyone reading this! I’m excited to take part in this week’s Neighborhood Watch Contest, which invites us to share real-life experiences from our surroundings. I decided to participate because I appreciate how this initiative unites us as storytellers, offering insight into the everyday life of our communities.

One of the most thrilling activities that captivates everyone each weekend is football. At the International Airport field, various groups congregate in different sections—some for leisure, others for exercise, and a few for organized local tournaments. The field is always vibrant, filled with cheers, laughter, and excitement.

In the vicinity, people continue their daily routines, with roadside vendors serving snacks, drinks, and fruits to customers watching the games. The whole atmosphere becomes lively and energetic.

In contrast to many who were enjoying the games, I had duty at the hospital that weekend. My day began with checking on patients in the wards to ensure their treatment plans were on track. The hospital environment was serene and calm, a stark contrast to the bustling weekdays.

In the afternoon, I oversaw the meal prepared for the doctors and other staff on duty, including myself. We had Egusi soup and Eba—delicious and filling. Many of my colleagues enjoyed it since it’s a favorite, although I have to admit, I’m not a big fan of "swallow" dishes. 😅

By 5:00 pm, I wrapped up my day and headed home, feeling weary but satisfied. As I passed the airport field, I noticed how it had transformed from a football pitch into a gathering spot. People formed small groups for evening hangouts, sipping drinks, chatting, and enjoying music as the sun set beautifully.

Once I got home, I freshened up, had a light dinner, and tackled some emails. Later, I unwound with a few mobile games before finally heading to bed, feeling grateful for a day filled with work, observation, and community engagement.

Life in my neighborhood blends work, leisure, and connection. From football enthusiasts cheering on the field to the quiet hospital corridors impacting lives, every moment tells a story. I’m thankful for the balance weekends bring—a reminder that amidst busy schedules, there is beauty in the world around us.
