friends! 🌟

Greetings to all movie lovers and fellow participants of Movie Snapshot – Week 4! This contest is getting better with every passing week, and I must say, the excitement never slows down. Last week's theme brought out so many hidden gems, but this week, we step into a world that truly stretches the imagination — Time Travel & Twists.

As soon as I saw this theme, I knew exactly what kind of movie I wanted to explore — something that plays with the mind, bends time, and leaves you thinking, "Wait… what just happened?"

And this is how I decided to see Predestination- the movie that was in my watchlist since times immemorial. I didn’t read much about it before reading it and perhaps that is how the story was best heard. Due to the fact that since it start it sucked me into a cycle that, as yet, I have not completed.

It begins with a man some kind of time-traveling agent who went out on a mission to stop the crime even before it occurs. What could be more simple, you would think? However, it is not so simple. This film does not merely play fast and loose with time... it spits it into a ball of string.

It tells a story of the main character, who goes into a bar and starts talking to a mystery man, as played by Ethan Hawke. And I tell you, that is a wild story.

“You ever heard a story that’ll blow your mind?” the stranger says.

That’s when I sat up straighter and whispered to myself, Alright, here we go.

The film shows you the life of a stranger earlier in life as a girl named Jane who had no parents since an infant trained to venture into space, fallen in love which ended up betraying her, and left with a young baby. Heartbreaking, right? But here is the thing, each time you think you know what is happening the film gives you a twist and you lose the plot.

The narration is not superficial. In each scene a murmur, a suggestion, a clue. There is one instance when the agent looks at the stranger and tells him, that he has no idea of who he really is. And I, frankly, did not either up until the last twist struck me like a truck.

The paradox of the movie is that time is a circle and not time line. I do not want to ruin the experience, but suffice to say: Past, present and future - are not as they appear. The twist of the plot does not only shock the audience, but it is brilliant. It causes you to re-consider every scene, every phrase, every look.

The best part of the movie that I liked was that the sci-fi element of the film was balanced in equal measure with passionate emotional narration. It was not only about the traveling over time, it was about identification, isolation and destiny. The characters were not superheroes or scientists, but broken people striving in order to understand their lives.

And you know what, the dialogue, man!

“What if I told you I could take you back to that moment and change everything?”

“Would it make a difference? Or would we end up here anyway?”

Those lines stayed with me long after the credits rolled.

Representing this story in a form of a novel, I would pay more attention to the thinking process that underlay the decisions. I would include entries in the diary of Jane, letters that would never be written and meditation at the crucial moments. I would write her asking:

“Am I trapped by time, or am I becoming what I was always meant to be?”

Because that’s the haunting beauty of Predestination. It’s not just about changing the past — it’s about realizing who you are, and whether fate can ever truly be escaped.

Nothing is spoon-fed in the movie. It wants your attention and will reward you by serving it a narrative that circles in loops most stories cannot dare to pursue. The best is that? When it is over, it does not really go away. It will also run in your mind when you are washing the dishes, when you are in bed or when you are gazing at the sky.

That is why, yes, when you want something that will require some mental activity and twist your soul at the same time, this is a movie. It is a story in a riddle, in emotion, and crowned with a twist that goes at the heart.

This week it had a theme of Time Travel and Twists, and I can say with a big I did get both and much more in this movie.

And thank you, my friends, to read. I wish you (pun intended!) to find time to watch this one. And when you do,--talking over the subject,--let us. And don t take my word at it because after having seen it once you ll sure as hell want to see it again.
