Tutorial for Newbies — What makes a Quality Diary Game Post? Part 2
It's good to be back again with the second part of our tutorial. It feels good to teach and see the people you're teaching apply what you teach them. Newcomers are really improving not just in the diary game tutorials taught last week but also in grammar checks. Having a good foundation like this will help you grow when you're an old user.
Anyways, we've still got a lot to learn. This is just 10% of what we have to learn. Before the year runs out, we'll lay our hands on at least 70% if not 100%. In our last class, we discussed what a diary game post is, how to make the content rich, how to write the title and why it's necessary to be detailed. You can go through the post here.
Part 1 on how to write a good diary game post
Continuing from the linking question we drop, this post will serve as part 2. I didn't want to bore my readers with a lengthy post, that's why I had to segment the tutorial.
Picture-Title Agreement |
---|
Picture-Title agreement is an essential part of a diary game, in fact, one of the main aspect of writing a quality diary game post. What does this mean? The first picture you used in your diary game post must match your title perfectly. If it doesn't, you're obviously deceiving your readers or making them look like a fool. I've read a few diary game posts and sad times say, what they say in their title isn't what I read.
In fact, it was the title that drew me to the post, but sad to say, I got disappointed when they said something different from what is written as their title. Most users today have violated this rule especially the newcomers. Most diary game posts have the selfie or faces of users as their first impression picture. This isn't bad but it doesn't always make your diary game post look quality.
Why? It doesn't give first impression. I know you may be beautiful or handsome but your face pictures doesn't make your post attractive. We want to see pictures of those activities carried out, if possible, a portrait of you doing those activities because you're not telling us about yourself but your day.
It's just like your Introductory post where you're required to use a portrait or face picture to introduce yourself. Diary game isn't an introductory post. We know you already. Using a picture of you in the background isn't bad, but those unnecessary selfies and face pictures is what makes a diary game post lack quality.
Back to our Picture-Title agreement. This is when the first picture doesn't match the title. For example my title is;
The Diary Game || 2-6-23 || Attending to business clients in my workplace and having family time
But your first picture is a selfie of you on a plain background, it doesn't match your title because your readers can't tell for sure that you went to your workplace. If possible, we need to see pictures of your workplace, pictures of you doing a work or maybe an interview, pictures of you inside the building or even with your family.
You may say, these pictures are in the post. Yes, agreed, but it's not sampled as the first picture. The first picture matters in every post because it creates first impression.
From the pictures below, can you which first picture will attract you the most?
![]() | ![]() |
---|
Definitely! The first screenshot will attract you the most because of the first picture used in the post. The second won't because it's just a selfie, more like an Introduction post.
If this user had used a first picture like this, 👇🏽👇🏽👇🏽 won't it explain the title and give readers an impression?
![]() | A Day of Sympathy and Heavy Workloads |
---|---|
The sympathy is shown here | ✅ |
So your first picture must match with your title. Very essential to avoid misleading your readers. You need to give them first Impression and attract them to your post.
Choosing your first picture |
---|
Choice of first picture is very essential in creating first impression. Don't just put any picture because it starts your day. For example, the first writeups that comes is when you woke up and had your breakfast. It's not wise to insert the food picture and leave it there. Why? It would automatically appear as your first picture. This is what I do 👇🏽👇🏽
- I check my pictures, all of them
- I ask myself, which one will fit my title and attract curators and readers to my post?
- I then select the best to use even though this picture comes in the middle of my day. I'll use it to create my first impression.
- I'll then insert the picture before starting my writeups. For example 👇🏽👇🏽
![]() | ![]() |
---|
I would have used the following pictures but it wouldn't have rhyme with my title because it's just a selfie of me in places that doesn't match where I described in my title. There's no crypto event in the background or traditional marriage display. That's why my choice was the best.
![]() | This won't fit my title. So I'll have to change my title if this is the only picture I have |
---|
If you don't have a particular picture to use, then give us a title that rhymes with the picture you have. Don't use gold and tell us about crypto
Don't use blurry pictures. It doesn't make your post a quality one. Clean your camera lens. It won't be so bad.
WhatsApp pictures i.e pictures sent by someone to you on WhatsApp, aren't allowed in a diary game post. This is used to check originality. Let the person send it through xender or Bluetooth if possible.
Use a minimum of 2 pictures in your diary game post
Using of a collage to include pictures of all activities done isn't bad
Using screenshot pictures in your diary game post doesn't make it original. At some point, you'll be questioned.
Don't cross-post your diary game posts for any reason
Don't use pictures of Thursday to tell us about Sunday. Your pictures must rhyme with your day. Your diary game should include pictures taken that day and not last year. This includes food pictures
Don't reuse pictures in a diary game post. It's very bad. Don't think we can't check 😁.....
A good diary game post picture should be landscape and not in portrait. If you can't take pictures in landscape, you can crop the picture so it won't be excessively long.
![]() | ![]() |
---|---|
Landscape ✅✅ | Portrait ❌❌❌ |
If you can't take landscape pictures, do well to crop your photos before Inserting then. E.g

Evaluate the body of the post |
---|
Ensure everything is set in your diary game before posting. Thd body of your content matters. Always include parts where readers can benefit from your post. You can include your challenges, observations, lessons, how you plan your day and any other thing. Just make sure your reader learns something from your lifestyle and your day. Ensure the following is kept in check.
Title | The Diary Game — Date — Sub-title or sub-title + Date if you don't want to make the diary game obvious | ✅ |
---|---|---|
Picture-Title agreement | First Picture must match with your title | ✅ |
First picture | Don't use selfies or face pictures | ✅ |
Ensure the body of your post is written well | ✅ |
Body of Content
Don't start your post with a greeting ❌ | Don't make your diary game like a tutorial. E.g I can, I saw, I conquered ❌ |
---|---|
Always Proofread or use grammar checkers to correct your grammar ✅ | Ensure your post include things readers can benefit from ✅ |
Your post should be detailed with a minimum of at least 400 words ✅ | Use pictures to convey ideas ✅ |
Check your tags |
---|
Tags are very essential in creating in categorising your type of content. Use #thediarygame #lifestyle or #betterlife when sharing your diary game post and they should appear as the first tag. Don't place it anywhere because you have tags that gives you votes. It must always be the first tag to post, then other tags can come after. It's just like talking about #crypto but your first tag is #agriculture #fyp and the likes. It doesn't make sense. So let's be guided.

Good morning sir,
First of let me appreciate you and other mentors who are committed in bringing the best out us the newbies and long time users who may at times unintentionally missed or arranged their writings, captions and photo placements. All the guides are helping us to improve. Like my coach will be telling me what to do everyday and seeing this from you to the entire community gives me joy.
As you keep updating us on the rules and expectations of Steemit, we will give back quality posts.
Please put me through this question, CAN I SCREENSHOT while working on something with the phone (like yesterday i was editing videos with CAPCUT for hours, and there was no other phone to who snapped the process), is it advisable to screenshot such and update as part of my activities?
Thank you sir, as i anticipate your kind response.

I really appreciate the acknowledgement. I hope you'll apply this in your posts too. Ohkay, to your question...
Yes, you can make screenshots on that since you were working on a video editing. Ensure you add a small caption....screenshot from my Capcut app.
And thanks for reminding me of one thing. We'll keep in touch. Are you in the steemit learning centre group?

This tutorial really opened my eyes to the importance of quality in diary game posts. I love how you broke it down into clear points that even a beginner can apply. The reminder to stay authentic while being creative is especially valuable. I appreciate how you highlighted structure, originality, and personal touch as key elements. Many newcomers often overlook details, but your tutorial makes it clear that storytelling combined with authenticity is what truly keeps readers engaged and inspired.

The Diary Game || 18-09-25 || Another hectic day at work
A picture of myself at work, with activities going on in the background, attempting to show how hectic the day was.
You've successfully passed this course Sir. Your title matches with your picture. I hope we can see more of your daily activities and what we can learn from your day . [How you balanced family activities with such a hectic work?] Thank you very much for this. I'm happy you've learnt something.

Upvoted! Thank you for supporting witness @jswit.
I believe that this applies to other posts as well. Beyond choosing an image that's clear and eye-catching, we must also consider if it matches the title.
I usually ask myself, "Is this a clickbait?" "Will it encourage readers to click?"
If it's a clickbait, then it isn't worth using. But if its a clear, creative image that encourages my readers to click, then its safe to use.
I'd implement what you've suggested as well.
