Steem4nigeria Accelerator Contest Week 88: My Childhood Dream Profession and My Present Reality
The happenings of life usually points us down to paths we never thought we would follow. For a few people, the dream profession of their young age becomes a lengthy passion, whereas for others the path takes a surprise turn.
Reflecting on my own path,I saw myself rotating between the choice of an aeronautical engineer and the practicality of land surveying.
This is how my inspiration came about, and the show of life in Nigeria patterned my professional pursuit.
What was your dream profession and why did you aspire to become a professional in that field |
---|
Being a Nigerian youth with a zeal for change and problem solving,my dream profession was to be an aeronautical engineer.I was joyed by the mechanism of flight, the designs of planes, and the potential for exploration of space. My thought of bringing something to the progress of aviation and space technology thrilled me,and I so much longed to join renowned aeronautic engineers who had patterned the way.
Being brought up in Nigeria,I was opened to challenges of Infrastructural development, growth of economy and transportation.I strongly thought that aeronautics would provide total solutions to some of these issues like improving economic development, improving technological changes and improving air transportation.
What is your present reality?Did you pursue it or found another interesting path along the way? |
---|
However, going through the difficulties of life in Nigeria,I found myself getting attracted to a different field;land surveying,my present course of study is Surveying And Geo-Informatics.This particular field had to do with the measurement and the mapping of Earth's surface, which is challenging and as well rewarding.
Swerving from aeronautics,I found out that the rules and principles of Surveying has something to do with aeronautical engineering, like dealing with spatial data and also mapping out techniques. My commitment in surveying builds up from it's tendency to contribute to urban planning, Infrastructural development and environmental management in my country Nigeria.
Why did you change your dream profession if you did and why didn't you change if you didn't |
---|
I shifted my focus from my decision of aeronautical engineering to land surveying because of the truths of life here in Nigeria. My country's Infrastructural challenges and economic crisis made it hard to pursue my initial dream without specific monetary investments.
Also, career prospects and jobs in aeronautical engineering in Nigeria sector was limited.
In a different view, land surveying brought a more practical career to me with a vast range of job chances in Nigeria's Infrastructural development, constructions and more.
I saw the vitality of land survey in keeping the environment and as well contributing to a lifelong development,in line with my interests and value.
Is there any regret for what you do today? |
---|
Well,I do not regret my choice to pursue land surveying,I wonder at times what would have been the outcome of pursuing aeronautical engineering. However,I have come to know that life is full of surprises and every encounter makes us into who we are today.
On my path to becoming a surveyor, I'm very proud to contribute to Nigeria's environmental development and I hay discovered that the knowledge and skills I acquire through surveying can be used in various fields like urban and regional planning, disaster control and environmental management.
Lastly,My path from aeronautics to surveying has been a life changing experience.I may have changed my dream profession, but I have also found a new inspiration in surveying.I am also glad to see where this leads me and how I can improve the future of Nigeria's environment.
It is not always about the destination,it is about the journey.Thank you all ❤️ .
