Plot Summary:

The story follows Evelyn Wang (played by Michelle Yeoh), a Chinese-American woman who runs a laundromat with her husband Waymond. Evelyn's life is full of stress — tax problems, a strained relationship with her daughter Joy, and a growing distance from her husband.

While visiting the IRS office for a tax audit, Evelyn suddenly encounters an alternate version of her husband from another universe. He tells her that a powerful threat is endangering the entire multiverse, and only she has the potential to stop it.

Evelyn learns how to "verse-jump," gaining skills and memories from her other versions across countless universes — including versions where she is a kung fu master, a famous actress, a chef, and more. The villain threatening everything is Jobu Tupaki — a multiversal being who turns out to be a version of her own daughter, Joy.
