"What on earth is holy water doing in a chemistry laboratory?" That was my first reaction when the plot and twist of "Black Easter" downed on me. The movie launches as a faith-based movie wrapped in time travel and extremist activity.

Sit tight and let me peel it layer by layer, as I explain why it felt like holy water in a science laboratory or a cocktail of holy water and premium rum.

In most scenarios, science and religion or faith have not always been good playmates; they often appear as rival forms of knowledge, with one always trying to discredit the other.

Plot:

Brandt and his family are involved in a car crash that makes him the only survivor. Based on the "God giveth and God taketh" theory of death, the man is angry that God took his family.

The story's narrative now switches focus to a scientist named Ram and his team. They have worked hard to develop a time machine. However, their employer, Ahmed, an extremist billionaire reveals his intention to use the technology to go back in time and kill Jesus Christ before the crucifixion. His aim is to alter history as we know it, the Jesus in this new storyline will be assassinated, instead of dying a sacrificial death as a martyr, leading to the movement now known as Christianity.

The Black Easter (2021) as a movie explores themes of faith as the characters' faith, values and beliefs were tested, exploring the moral implications and the idea of good versus evil.

As a film, it has received mixed reviews, a cross-section are appreciating its unique approach, while others criticise the way it handles religious themes and inaccuracies. Just as someone could feel bad about the thought of diluting rum with holy water.
Or the idea that the saviour of the world will have to be saved, as if God were unable to do so.

But if time travel were possible, and I went back in time. The people then would think I am an angel with the knowledge I will exhibit and the gadgets I may have with me.
