"SLC-S25/W3-Movie snapshot/Hidden Gems"
Introduction |
---|
This weeks Movie Snapshot week 3 challenge theme:"Hidden Gems" is the absolute best.
I specifically thank the author of this challenge for the thoughts behind this challenge. Finally and opportunity to give the right recognition to movies which left a huge impact on us but never got the recognition it deserved.
These are movies that one way or another thought me lessons about life, and imitation of what some people go through in life acted out in screens. Stories people can relate to.
Five Underated Movies I've seen |
---|
In no particular order :
1. Legally Blonde(2001) |
---|
This movie tells the story of determination, resilience, confidence, and prove that even with a pretty face an cheerful charisma you can be anything you want to be.
It tells the story of Elle Woods, a fashionable sorority president who is dumped by her boyfriend, Warner, because she isn't "serious" enough for his future at Harvard Law School. Determined to win him back, Elle applies to and gets accepted into Harvard Law herself. At Harvard, she initially faces prejudice and ridicule from her peers who underestimate her due to her bubbly personality and love for fashion especially a love for all things pink .
However, Elle Wood perseveres, proving that she is more than just a pretty face. She excels in her studies, particularly when she takes on a high-profile murder case and discovers her legal skills.
Along the way, she makes new friends, learns valuable lessons about self-belief and the importance of being true to herself.
The end goal is achieved when a cheer leader who everyone thought was just a dump brain, and which harvard in the movie only accepted for inclusiveness of blonde hair people not only graduates from Harvard, but builds herself up to such a high standard, breaking all barriers set up before her and succeeding and even winning her first case as an intern. Even her old boyfriend who dumped her and motivated the whole process later comes back begging.
Truly, i learnt that if you build yourself up to a certain stage in life, things will just fall into place for you.
2. Diary of a Pregnant Woman by Ruth Kadiri |
---|
This movie tells the story of what most pregnant women go through. Child birth is a blessing but no one really talks about the changes that happens to a woman during child birth.
In the movie,Ruth Kadir played her part so well, she incorporated alot of this changes; from excessive tiredness and weakness, to becoming very troublesome and starting up problems with her husband's cousin for no reason, to being too lazy even to have her bath most times, or was it the weird cravings that comes with pregnancy, there was this time she even preferred to eat her neighbors food other than the one she had at home, whilst blaming everything on the baby (an attitude that could easily get one annoyed or irritated).
However, in the movie Alex Ekubo who played the role of her husband was very caring, tolerant, patient and he endured all her tantrums understanding that this isn't how she was before she became pregnant.
A great lesson today, most women change during conception, not of their own will but because of their hormones, the lesson of being patient with such people was clearly acted out well.
3. The Other Woman (2014) |
---|
Three women spun in a web of lies, betrayal, pain, hurt, and infidelity by a man who despite being married and having a beautiful, supportive wife has affairs with other women.
All is revealed when one of the women pays him a surprise visit and realizes his deception. Hurt and ashamed she meets his wife and reveals his infidelity to her. The two women join forces together to take their revenge only to realise the is yet another woman. Hurt, and disappointed by his constant betrayal and disgraceful attitude the three of them join forces and take their revenge on him leading to his being sacked due to his behavior.
These women pick themselves up, become best of friends and help each other heal from the hurt.
From the movie it was seen that most times side chicks are really innocent and don't even know the are side chicks.
4. Why did i get married(2007) |
---|
One of Tyler Perry's amazing movies.
It starts when eight married friends take their annual reunion vacation in a mountain in Colorado.
In an unfortunate turn of events , revelations of infidelity involving one pair shatter the mood of the trip, making each friend take a hard look on the strength of their own marriages.
The movie showed a mix of commitment issues, love, betrayal, forgiveness.
I particularly love the role of sheila a woman whose self esteem and confidence was shattered by a husband who claimed he cheated on her because she looked too chubby and divorced her.
Soon after that, she meets another man who appreciates her for who she is, chubby and all, he teaches her what love truly is, and help her to love and appreciate herself as well.
5. Freaky Friday |
---|
A Comedy about a mother and daughter who switch bodies after receiving a mysterious fortune from a Chinese restaurant.
The movie shows the challenges of understanding a teenager, especially as a widow who just wanted another chance at love. It also showed the challenges that comes with living as a teenager, and progressing into adulthood.
Through the swap they are able to understand each others struggles and bond better.
Why These Movies are Underated |
---|
Considering how prefectly each actor played their roles in these movies, making sure the lesson was clearly passed, the effort of the movie directors and producers to present these outstanding movies, i believe this movies deserve to be rated better.
What Can be done to make these movies better known or Valued |
---|
I believe these movies lacked the proper publicity especially considering that some of them were produced in an era where the effect of the internet was not greatly seen and felt.
However, using social media platforms, and the Internet we can give these movies the publicity they deserve and hopefully someday the would be given the recognition they deserve.
