As-salamu Alaykum ( 'Peace be upon you')

I am very happy to participate in the second week of Steemit Learning Challenge . Book to Screen an amazing topic to write. I have seen many movies till now which are based on books or novels. To be honest many movies have done better than my expectations and some movies have disappointed me. I think it is difficult to make a movie from a novel because the expectations of the audience are very high.

Do you think, an idea is better written as a book/novel or acted out as a movie? And which do you prefer?

This is a tricky question, but in my opinion, an idea can be expressed better in a novel. Because there the writer can present his thoughts, feelings and emotions in detail to the reader. Similarly, a reader can also arrange his thinking, imagination and emotions in his own way. For example, if I talk about the novels of our country's popular writer Humayun Ahmed, the heroines of all his stories are incredibly beautiful. He describes the heroine so perfectly that it will sparkle in your imagination. Also, it is not possible to completely portray the dialogues and emotions of his stories and novels with acting.

However, I also admit that movies bring the idea to life with real scenes and emotions. Which is often more beautiful than imagination. The characters and acting of the movie make a quick impact on the mind of the viewer, but still I think it does not always give the opportunity to think deeply.

Personally, I like reading novels, because it has room for imagination and shaping it in our own way.

Watch any movie adapted from a book or novel

This Nobel is about the travels of a man named Gulliver through four countries, where the author's deep thoughts and critical views are highlighted in the novel. Gulliver first travels to Lilliput, the country of small people. Here Gulliver is a giant compared to them. Then he travels to the country of Bobdingnag, the country of giants. Here Gulliver is a small person. Then he goes to Laputa, a country of a nation that is excessively obsessed with science and technology. Finally, he goes to Huenham, the country of the rational horse.
Through this, he has tried to expose human power, poverty, exaggerated use of science, and greed or animalism.

The movie that is being made based on this novel has not revealed its details. Here Gulliver is a modern-day office worker. One day, he goes on a mission and suddenly gets washed away by a sea storm to a land of small people called Lilliput. There he is like a giant. The story starts with an interesting story, some challenges, and in the end he becomes a hero. Here, only the issues of the country of Lilliput are focused on, and not much is filmed about the other countries.

From the movie you have watched above, what can you say about the strength and weakness of the movie compared to the book/novel

Strength Of The Movie Compared To The Novel

  • Attractive visual presentation

These fictional countries, whether they are small people (Lilliput) or giants, come alive in front of your eyes. I was very surprised to see Lilliput on Gulliver's chest and I was also surprised to see him as a living doll in the land of giants in the second half. I never thought I would be able to see these scenes. This visual presentation was more alive than I imagined.

  • Entertaining and light comedy presentation

The 2010 movie starring Jack Black was very humorous, especially made for children. Which easily attracted all the viewers, young and old. The most entertaining scene was when Gulliver, due to the lack of emergency fire service, put out the fire by urinating after a fire broke out in the kingdom of Lilliput. It was so fun.

  • Use of modern elements:

The movie uses some modern technology and pop culture references that are more relevant to the current generation.

  • Family-friendly movie

The movie does not have action or bloodshed, there are no adult scenes, so everyone can enjoy it together.

Weakness Of The Movie Compared To The Novel

  • The original message and depth are lost:

Where the novel was a harsh critique of society, politics and religion, the movie has almost omitted these aspects. The original satirical context is no longer there.

  • The movie focuses more on one country

Of the four important journeys of Gulliver, only Lilliput is focused more. The events and focus of other countries are less.

  • Deep satire has changed to comedy

Where the novel challenged reality, the movie is presented as just a funny story.

Finally I would love to say it was indeed very creative movie. If you read this novel then don't miss this movie. It is worth watching. I believe many of you already watch this movie. I am inviting my friends @rauja @sohanurrahman and @shadow4 to have a look on this challenge.

Thanks everyone for reading my post

Es bueno leer, porque es un hábito bien importante y negativo. Pero las películas muestran más detalles y las escenas, son muy buenas para atrapar la atención.

Wow, what a beautifully written and reflective post!

I really appreciate how you analysed both the novel and movie versions of Gulliver’s Travels, especially your thoughtful comparison of their strengths and weaknesses. You captured something very true: books offer the freedom to imagine deeply, while movies tend to condense that imagination into more digestible visuals, sometimes losing depth along the way.

Your observation that the film focused mostly on Lilliput while ignoring the richness of the other lands is so valid.

The original novel was layered with political and social critique, but the movie chose humour and entertainment. I think both serve different audiences, but I completely agree, it’s the emotional and intellectual impact of the book that lingers long after reading.

Also, your description of the visual presentation and comedic moments was spot on! Jack Black really brought a fun energy to the story, and I can imagine how children, especially, would be drawn to that kind of adaptation.

You’ve done such a great job showing how adaptations can inform or dilute meaning, depending on how they’re handled. Thank you for this lovely entry, it really made me want to go back and revisit both the book and the movie!

Looking forward to more of your posts 😊

Saludos amiga.
