SLC-S25/W2-Movie Snapshots|Book to Screen (The Martian-2015)

Hello guys, greetings to you all. It is with great pleasure writing in this community and also participating on one of the amazing learning challenge. Movie Snapshots. It's an amazing topic which can be elaborated in many ways, but based on the guidelines for this contest, we are going to work with it from a novel. Its perspective, transforming it into a relatable movie.
When I first saw this learning challenge, the first movie that came to my mind was no other than. The Martian. Which is a movie that directed based on a novel written by Andy weir.
Why did I pick this novel. I am a lover of science and whenever I come across movies or novels related to science, I become immediately interested and will like to explore more. This movie Pictures just what I have been looking for and I couldn't spend much less time without watching it.
Equally it is relatable to one of the recent happenings which happen last year. Do you remember the Two astronauts were stranded in space just before the end of last year. The American astronauts which were later brought home on a SpaceX spacecraft. Oh yeah. This is something much more similar except this time. The book discourse on the abandonment of an astronaut on a red planet who will strive for survival and is eventually brought home as well.
Base on my opinion Do I believe, an idea is better written as a book/novel or acted out as a movie? And which do I prefer? |
---|
This is interesting question, which do I prefer. First? Let me delve into aspect ratio in which which is more applicable.
Books(novels)
Novels are pronounced for exploring the characters in thought, motivation An internal conflict which can get into the reader's head and create an atmosphere which it's not likely possible using visuals except implementing voice over commands.
A novel ambiguous in such a way that it allows the reader to picture out the characters in their own imagination, creating a sense of wonder which bring the scene into life in our own unique ways. They equally provide us with the control we need when reading. A reader may decide to pause, revisit some pages and reread again at our own pace. This allow us to reason more and feel the moment. Finally, while the movie shows you, books allow you to read and upgrade and analyze concept thereby building sensory experience in your own mind.
Movie
Movies favors ideas that are highly relying on stunning visual actions, choreography and bringing scripts to live. This enhance the idea and make it more appealing to the viewers.
We can also talk about things like pace control.. Which is often in control by the filmmaker allowing specific scene to appear in a sequence, thereby building emotional tension and equally guiding the audience through the movie. Added this, movies are likely to reach a wider audience as as there is less time constrain since everyone can have access to a unique period of time compared to books which require hours, days and months of reading through.
Finally, while watching a movie, the actor's present bring specific characters to life which are not often portrayed in the book. This give a more depth of the movie concept.
Finally the judgment, which is better?. In my analysis, I would say each is unique in its own way of applications as I would outline below.
For personal development and intellectual interaction with concept and theories, books are more preferable as it gives us a more wider spectrum to read, analyzed and imaginate in our own unique ways.
For immediate emotional impact such as bringing scripts into reality, movies or the top spot for this as they bring characters to life and make us feel more in the moment as as though we were Reading the novel.

The Martian.
Genesis
Andy weir, A software engineer and space enthusiast was obsessive with science fiction and the strength for survival on other planets. To get more in-depth into this concept, he revised on botany, orbital mechanics, chemistry and engineering which Are a key concept needed to serve this problem of survival. This concept was explained on his page first in 2011, and was later discovered by crown publishing group, witch later freak night is this work And publish it officially as a novel in 2014. His story was later told through a film by Mark Watney in 2015.
Trailer. [The Martian]
This movie is based on the quest for planetary exploration. For Mark Watney, they were sent a mission to space by NASA, to explore the environment of Mars and later written the Intel to Earth. However, a healthy space storm Blow towards them why they were exploring the environment. Everyone scramble toward the spaceship, but unlucky for Mark Watney. He was knocked down by space debris unconscious.
Later on he recovered and realize he is the only one stranded on the planets. Lost communication, no food and water, he begun to delve deep into his science concert as an Instinct of survival. He later on begun cultivating potatoes using human waste, generating water using using hydration techniques and equally setting up a communication scheme viewed from scrapped which he was finally able to reach Earth's communication system.
NASA then and back on a mission to bring in him back to Earth. This concert explains Andy weir quest for survivor, Instinct and equally the exploration of science within our environment. Navigating layers and bringing life out of the impossible. His philosophy was not limited beyond astronaut but survival instincts using science accuracy and precision. This movie was directed to the big screen by Ridley Scott featuring the main character Matt Damon as Mark Watney.
From the movie you have watched above, what can you say about the strength and weakness of the movie compared to the book/novel but if you have not read the book then tell us what captivated you the most in the movie and if you were to write a book on the movie how would that part be written to captivate the reader? |
---|
The one part that captivated most in the movie Is the part which the character After being left to death, death on Mars, refused to give up and get creative. Converting whatever he can possibly have around as a means of survivor. This concert goes ahead to to tell us the in-depth of human ingenuity and equal ability to adapt and survive in under estim harsh pressure conditions.
NASAs ability to receive Communications from this character from another planet also shows us how human interaction togetherness can solve problems working in child harmony.
If I had to write a scene on this part, it would be thus.
On his first night being stranded, he became exhausted and love with fear and regret. At first he thought he would never make it out. No matter how hard he tries, all hopes have been lost. Communication systems are down, no food or water.
As he begun to wonder about the the red planet, a certain idea stroke his mind. What if there was a way he could at least make it back home. He knew this was not going to be easy but then he has to craft a well-developed plan which is going to sustain him until he achieve his big goal of returning to Earth.
His human intuition and adaptability kicks right in, exploring the magic of science. He begun to work on things like cultivating food on Martian and soil using human waste, using hydrogen and oxygen to convert them into water from his jacket. He later on decide to work on the communication system as he was sure the amount of food left could not survive him for a long time.
Several months of working, he eventually got his radio working and he tested the first signal, although it was a glitch but he could hear some ways coming in. He decides to readjust the frequencies and equally modify the demodulators until was obtained. The signal was picked up at NASA's headquarter and a rescue Mission was made available in a month's time which he was later brought back to Earth. NASA caption This mission "bring him back".
Conclusion: |

Andy weir, book. The Martian delve into a maelstrom of terror. The wind was not just a gentle breeze on a red planet but a vicious storm of dust and iron blowing toward the character. In Ridley Scott theory of Andy weir's tale, this was a catalyst which abruptly leave one man behind in terror and fear.
Mark Watney, was a scientist but beyond that, he needed more than just science to survive. The stubborn human instinct to survive and equally , his adaptability and creativity moved him to do wonder which left the audience in a wow.
Rounding up with this contest, I would like to invite some persons to participate with me.

Thank you for participating in this challenge of season 25.
I expected to see some pictures from the movie you have described aside the one you took on Google. And even if you have not read the novel yet, I was also expecting to see a screenshot of the book .
I totally loved how you have presented the part that captivated you if you were to write a book on it. Kudos.
Upvoted! Thank you for supporting witness @jswit.
