Homecoming/Reunion Event at Federal Government College Okposi [FGCO] // 26th - 28th September 2025
It was a busy weekend filled with so many nostalgic moments. Seeing friends, classmates, and some teachers after 25 years of secondary (high) school days. This was a huge event for me given the number of attendees in this event. It was a reunion and homecoming event organised by FGCOSA [Federal Government College Old Student Association].

The journey started on Friday, the 26th day of September, all through to Sunday, the 28th day of September 2025. Betyou, you did want to know all that happened this period. Given the high and low moments that occurred as events unfolded, it was mind-blowing.
Arrival day was the beginning of the hype of this homecoming as cars were seen driving into the school gate. It was a convoy that got the attention of passersby and the entire village community. This is an event with over 400 personalities in attendance.
We arrived at the premises and came down with an unending pleasantries in view. Seeing friends after a long time was an amazing moment for me. It was so joyful... Not long after, the first agenda item for the event was addressing the students. This was done by some selected individuals and then by the president of the association.
Remember, this was a 3-day program. So when we got done with addressing the student, we all headed to the first arrival party night, hosted at one of the hotels we all booked for these days. Don't worry, I will also write about this hotel. It was a beautiful place to stay given its ultra-modern architectural designs.

The next morning, being the 2nd day, the hub of activities started very well with sanitation and inspection of hostels [student lodgement areas]. This has been a tradition and, as expected, we had to do these rituals, but to the amazement of many, they lived up to expectation. Though we still had pockets of unprepared areas due to our early timing which was against their usual timing.
We joined them in the dining hall for breakfast. Beans & potatoes were served, but this has become one of the highlights of the topics in our mouths. The quality of goods has dropped below the minimum requirement, which has worried us. It is worrisome as the federal government failed the unitary schools this much. It is not only dehumanising but also another time to pronounce failed governance in the school system. What we saw was not good and it has been escalated to the school authorities.
Football Match
The next activity in our program was the football match between students and old student groups. It was entertaining as this was intense and became another entertaining zone for many who came.to watch this gallant display from both sides.
Though I've wanted to join the team but I was amazed to see an already selected group with jerseys. At one time, I was wondering if I was late or if there was a maneuver. Nevertheless, the old student team was able to score a goal in the match.

A recess was taken for a few hours before the AGM and electioneering process, which commenced around 4 pm and 8 pm respectively. During the AGM, the new constitutional amendment was read out and an adoption process was given as a working document. Not only this, during this session, the old student gave some merit-based awards to the best performing students to encourage others to do more.

Moreover, observations were shared with the school principal, who, in turn, responded very well to our concerns and also pledged that we can do more to help ameliorate some of the challenges they face, given the government's failed responsibilities. At this event, an 8-room toilet system was commissioned for use to enable the male students to have a decent convenience area of such standards.
The election process, which was the final lap for the day's event, started around 20.00 UTC. This is a process that happens every other 2 years to allow for a change of leadership in the association. After a keenly contested process, the president, vice president, secretary, and other positions were announced before we left for the second day's dinner party at the same venue. It was Sunday [Thanksgiving Sunday] to be grateful to God Almighty for successful activities, safety, and the installation of a new president. The school chapel hosted us in this regard as we were grateful to the creator for this shared moment. It is always good to be in His presence. Thereafter, it was departure time...
