Food security is the process of having enough food in our various countries that will help us eat nutritious food in order to grow as well as improve our healthy living. This surplus of food in the community will improve our economic activities, and also there will be availability of food that will reach different ethnicities, ages, and classes of people.

If food security exists in our various homes, there will not be hunger among families. Another important thing about food security is that it enables us to plan for the future so that we can have enough food supply in circulation when floods, droughts, and wars occur. Families that have sufficient food to eat will be able to carry out their daily activities without illness because eating quality food boosts our immune system perfectly.

Food insecurity normally occurs when we don't have sufficient food to eat with our families, and the causes include the following:

• Poverty: This is a major cause of food insecurity in Nigeria and the rest of the world. How can people who do not eat three good meals a day find money to buy food for their families? Lack of capital contributes negatively to food insecurity because it lowers food production.

• Climate change: This is another causes of food insecurity, heavy rains can destroy farm products, which will eventually contribute to food shortages.

• Conflict: If conflict happens in a country, it will affect everyone, and people will not have access to affordable food. During conflicts, the transportation system will also be a major problem because it will be difficult to reach final consumers.

• Political instability: Changes in government can also increase the price of food in the market, making it unaffordable for everyone.

The problem of food insecurity has a negative effect on both children and elderly people because inadequate consumption of healthy food leads to malnutrition. This is where some children do not quickly grow physically or mentally. We need these nutrients in order to help us stay fit all the time.

Food insecurity also contributes to a person having chronic illnesses such as diabetes and obesity. This is because some of these people depend on less healthy food, which negatively affects their health. Another problem is that it will increase the price of food as well as social isolation among people.

Solutions to food insecurity:

Food insecurity is a national issue that the government must try to solve because food plays a crucial role in our lives. Some possible solutions are stated below:

➡️The government and other wealthy members of the community must support local farmers in rural areas to promote their livelihoods, as well as to ensure that people have access to food at their convenience.

➡️Educating consumers on food wastage; instead, they must adopt the habit of giving to the less privileged in the community only if there is enough food.

➡️Women should be empowered to practice agriculture, and all the necessary resources must be given to them in order to increase food production in the country.

➡️The government and other important personnel must provide money as well as food assistance to the people who are living in poverty in our area in order to enjoy meaningful lifestyle.
