Hello friends welcome to my blog
I have always believed that man needs agriculture in day to day life to survive, especially on what we consume. In that case we all need to get involved.

So lets dive into todays topic: Agriculture and me i will be explaining a sample process of how i produce a home made meal (Corn pap) from an agricultural product.(Maize/Corn).

There are lots of healthy foods that can be derived from corn such as corn flour, boiled or roasted corn, pap, some cereals and the list goes on. Today let me lead us into the process of making one of these foods which is corn pap. Pap is a fermented pudding from corn. In my home, i have a child who loves taking pap almost every day from the moment he was weaned of breastmilk. I thought he would outgrow his love for corn pap like other children usually do after awhile but he never did which is quite refreshing because it has nutritional values. This prompted me to always produce it myself at home since it's more hygienic and safer than buying it from market sellers.

This is my step-by-step process of making Corn pap
Step 1
From the market i bought the Corn/Maize, afterwards i picked out the dirty ones from it and soaked it in a bigger bowl of water and covered it

It remained soaked for three days. In those three days i kept washing and changing the water each day until the third day when the corn had become soft and fermented properly. The essence of this process of changing the water each day was to make sure the corn doesn't smell bad and also to prevent it from affecting the taste of the final product.
The process of fermentation is essentially to create

  • an easy grinding and sieving process giving it the proper required texture,
  • enhances nutritional value,
  • it is also a preservation technique that gives it a long shelf life.

Step 2
On the third day i do my final washing, making sure to clean and drain all the water used in washing the corn. After that i pour the corn into a clean container and take it to the corn mill where its been grinded into a smooth consistency

Step 3
Moving forward, i got all the necessary items i needed to sieve out the grinded wet corn which is now in a smooth consistency. In this process i got my bowl of water, a scooping bowl, another big bowl (where i tie my sieving scarf) and then the most important item my grinded corn!

Step 4
Here i start by taking small portions of the grinded corn and put it in the bowl with the sieve add some water using the scooping bowl and gently stir it with my hand until only the seperated charf particles is left in the sieve.

Step 5
Step 4 is repeated until the grinded corn finishes and has all settled into the bowl being tied with the sieve. Once this is done i untie the sieve and remove it from the bowl allowing the water to settle.

Step 6.
After about two hours i gently removed the water on the top and then i pour out the rest of the seived content into a cotton bag so that it could drain the rest of the water remaining inside.

When the water had drained completely I transferred it out into containers used in storing them in the refrigerator or freezer where i can take them from whenever i want to have some delicious, healthy and yummy pap for breakfast or dinner.

A video of the whole process for a better understanding

Its an easy process that one can do. With this you cannot run out of corn pap at home because you will have more quantity and It is also a hygienic process compared to some of the road side/market seller.

In the past, before i started my family i usually patronized road side/market sellers but now i see alot of difference comparing both. Since i began this practice of making corn pap at home, it have been so helpful that i do not run out of corn pap at home.

This brings us to food security which is one of the benefits of Agriculture, it ensures sufficient, safe and healthy food supplies.

Corn pap production showcases the beauty of food craft. Clean maize is soaked, ground, and sieved to remove husks. Fermentation enriches its flavor, and cooking creates a silky texture. The process is a perfect marriage of farm freshness and traditional culinary wisdom. Maybe you can teach me how to make this i would really love that, great post and well done
