Title: "The Sentinel of the Sky"

It was one afternoon when the sunlight filled the rooftops with gold colors and I was on my window with my camera. This is when I realized that I have seen this particular guest high up in the air over the neighborhood a solitary pigeon that sits so proudly on a thin pole. In a flash, I took a shot never aware that I was taking a shot that was going to speak a story.

This was not a pigeon at all. The bird Aziel was no ordinary one. the locals had the name Aziel because of the sound that children are mouthed, and that is imitated by the vibration of wings. He was even a kind of a protector gazing down upon our houses on his elevated metal seat. It might be early or late, wet or fine; but the figure of Aziel would frequently be visible outlined against the boundless blue heaven.

It was commonly deemed that Aziel was conceived on a violent thunderstorm, getting hatched in some crevice of an abandoned structure on the roof. It was a stormy night, and the thunder was roaring and the lightening was striking on to the heavens but somehow the tiny bird survived. It is in that storm that Aziel apparently received his strength and ability to bounce back.

During the years he had seen with silent eyes the life of the dwellers in the lower world children playing in puddles, old men squabbling over a chess-game, women gossiping across the balconies, and lovers stealing glimpses in the twilight purr. He became just as silent as a companion in all routine, a bit player of that in-and-out drama, of daily life.

One day a hawk made incursion into the air that circled about overhead. Smaller birds flew off, but Aziel did not move. High and proud he stood motionless, as it were saying: Not my skies. Not today.” At length the eagle was off, and the street below rang with whistles and cheers. It was at that point that even the skeptics could admits that Aziel is not just a bird.

The picture I took on that day was not a simple picture. It identified with tranquility, power and presence. As Aziel put it to us loudly, no matter how crazy things get, there is always some place to perch, some time and some bravery to get us through the turbulence.

He returns there to that same pole as though that were his throne, still very frequently. And every time I look at him, I recall: sometimes the strongest stories are sitting at quite near distances right over our heads, waiting to be spotted just like Aziel, guardian of the heavens.

Thanks for reading my post I'm inviting.
