Agriculture is the bedrock of every nation, without agriculture there will be no food for the masses. With my little knowledge in agriculture I will be sharing my opinion on the below Hints.

What do you know about cultural Beliefs in Agriculture

In my understanding cultural beliefs in agriculture is the standing order that guides the farmers of the community on how to maintain peace and orderliness in agriculture. This includes the period of planting and harvesting to bring good farm produce during harvest.

Discuss the Agricultural beliefs in your Community or region

In my community where I was born and brought up, I was lucky to see how agriculture is being done there are many beliefs in my community that will baffle you all.

  • shifting cultivation . This is done every 7 years when the elders in my community share the land to indigens who met up the community fees and Levies. It's believed that by seven Years the land is matured for bountiful harvest.

  • Mutual burning of the Bushes. During farming season it is believed that everyone will come out so that the men will carefully set the fire and it burns everybody's farm ,this is done so that the fire will not enter another people's land or the reserved land for next planting.

  • Equal sharing of the land. No body wants to be cheated, as such everyone waits until the agreed day of sharing the land , so that people will know their boundaries and maintain it. And if anyone extends to another persons own the elders will sanction the person.

Discuss on the Taboos and restrictions in farming in your community

Yes there are restrictions in farming in my community , during festival time like the new yam festivals people are restricted from going to farm , prior to this restriction people are given enough time to do whatever they like and keep their farm produces in order so that nothing will take them to the farm for the period of one week.

Restriction On Eke market days . My community market is called Eke market , on this market day nobody is allowed to stay in the farm beyond 9 am . This time is given so that farmers can carry their farm produces like vegetables, cassava, and other things to the market, anything beyond this time the vigilantes will arrest you and a fine of he-goat and yam will be collected from the defaulters.

It's a taboo in my community for a woman to remove boundary sticks that is fixed by the elders or the men in the community. If any woman is caught on this act she will be given a punishment of not having a farm land in the next season of farming ,unless she buys from others.

This is my entry in week 47 of basic knowledge in agriculture
