What do you understand by plant pathology

Based on my understanding, Plant pathology as to do with the study of plant diseases. It helps us to understand how plants are affected by diseases and possible ways to prevent the effects of these diseases.

Plants also suffer environmental conditions, effects of germs like insects, fungi, viruses, etc, just like humans and animals.

The study of pathology is to solve these problems and make plants grow well.

Discuss the importance of plant pathology

• Plant pathology ensures that our crops are safe from all forms of diseases, which may lead to poor growth or death of the plant, causing poor harvest.

• Plant pathology helps us to gain knowledge on the causes of this problem and how to solve it to improve our harvest.

• Being able to maintain a disease-free farm makes the crops grow well. Farmers will likely make a great harvest, which will generate more income for them.

• Plant pathology enlightens us on the natural means by which we could eliminate diseases on our farm for our crops to grow well. Thereby reducing the use of harmful chemicals to control diseases and pests.

• When there are good harvests, the economy will not suffer. Agriculture itself is one of the strongest pillars of the economy in many countries, like Nigeria. With plant pathology, agriculture can gain success in making a good harvest, therefore supporting the economy as well.

• It calls for critical research by scientists and research centers to discover more ways to solve the problems of plants and improve their health for a great harvest.
