Basic knowledge in Agriculture #36
Define agritourism and its role in rural development.
Well, I am not going to be lieing about hearing about agritourism before. The term is new to me. I might have an inkling about its description but it would not be profound. Thanks to this post, I was able to carry out research on the term and know more about it.
From my research, I can be able to define agritourism as a recreational firm of agriculture which helps farmers and non-farmers to exploit agriculture beyond just working on the farm but finding pleasure and a form of hobby in it.
It is almost like combining agriculture and recreational activities together making sure they still remain interconnected.
Of course, it can take full force in the rural communities and it plays huge roles like connecting the rurals with the urban residents. It also help in keeping the culture and tradition in check.
Types of agritourism
- Farm market: in this type, people from different places would be able to visit and go round local farm markets; these market are filled with only farm produce ranging from crops, diary product, vegetables, fruits farm equipment and materials and so on.
- Farm tours: with a tour guide, farm tours could be really interesting; and especially if it is a very large farm where people can be shown different sectors on it. Example given includes the ponds, fruit trees plantations, corn rows, tomatoes farm, pepper farm, the poultries, the stable, the pen, apiary, tubers farm and many more. This would even encourage more people to sponsor and go into farming.
- Rural recreation: this includes recreational activities done for fun but are related to agriculture. They are either done somewhere on the farm or with something and someone related to the farm
One of it is horse riding, others including go-a-fishing, cooking escapades and so on. - Agricultural workshop visit: after farming and harvesting, there are lots of places where the harvests are processed. Cassavas are peeled and processed, beans are removed from pods, fruits are washed, cotton balls are worked on, milk are processed, palm oil are made and so on. Paying visit to these place could be fun and at the same time help one learn a thing or two
Benefits of agritourism
